I can't imagine the lines out onto route 25 this winter. I have waited there with my little pickup in the middle of winter close to 2 hrs already.

Interesting, I've never waited at any of the two local breakers. Never more than one vehicle (usually none) in front of me, I always go on weekdays too. I sorta probed the guy at the breaker and he made it sound like they weren't any more busy than normal, so I guess the rush still hasn't hit (people think the economy is going to make a comeback?!)lincolnmania wrote: ↑Fri. I actually didn't pick it up, it MIGHT be this guy:

It was definitely a 544 area code (minersville) and that's where he was close to. I thought I saw the name "kozura" but I could be wrong.
Another option is Carl's Coal delivery 57O(six)591O8(five), he lives closer to sherman and superior than any delivery I know of, so he might be cheapest. He's also extremely nice and helpful, never in a rush, usually a short chat about local coal stuff.
Ready for winter! 1 ton leftover superior buck (ash is actually pretty good) from summer 4 ton pea (mostly sherman) 5.5 ton sherman buck

Hello everyone. I've been using Lehigh A. for the past few years and yes their prices are high. My son bought Sherman late 2023 and he claims while the Sherman is less per ton, the quality is poor compared to Lehigh Anthracite. He's a research nerd and keeps watch on the stove. He compares the two different products. Who else can I use in the Tamaqua area with the white ash coal?

Currently Sherman is at least $150.00 a ton less than Lehigh.Cap wrote: ↑Wed. Jan. 10, 2024 4:26 pmHello everyone. I've been using Lehigh A. for the past few years and yes their prices are high. Sherman coal is good stuff, been burning it for years. I never burned Lehigh but i have burned a lot of Blaschak since I moved to Berks county in 2017. I'm back to Sherman because of the lower price and it's closer to me than Tamaqua. Sherman is a small operation compared to Lehigh.
What does your son not like? the ash content and the fines?
It puts out good heat and my mileage is the same as the Blaschak coal.
I also tried Sherman coal for the first time this year. 6 ton chestnut delivered from Hershel Underkauffler. Other than a little bit of wood chips, the coal is burning great. Fine powdery ash, shiny and sounds like glass. Lots of great heat. Very happy, good value, and like supporting the mom n pop breakers.

Lehigh rice I burned 3 years ago was total crap. Sherman is miles ahead.

He claims Lehigh burns much hotter. It's also lighter according to him. We just started using the Lehigh yesterday after using the Sherman for a month. I can agree it does burn warmer. I haven't used Blaschak in many years.lincolnmania wrote: ↑Wed. Jan. 10, 2024 8:19 pmWhat does your son not like? the ash content and the fines?

I am happy with Sherman Coal. There are fines in the rice but my LL stoker burns just fine after a small feed rate adjustment because the rice seems slightly oversized than Blaschak that I usually burn. Can’t beat the price and they are super easy to deal with. When you arrive just pull on the scale on the right side of the breaker, it is a one way scale so if you have a trailer I suggest pull on and wait for the buzzer (they will have your tare weight) then back off slowly. It will test your backing skills! I drove around the breaker (to the left) and pulled into load up, that way I climbed the hill to let gravity drain out the water before getting back on the scale. The lady in the office keeps track of everything. Since the coal is the cheapest around I throw them at least $20 to take care of the crew. I plan on going back down in a few weeks to help out some friends that can’t haul it back to Upstate NY. Always call first and I suggest going mid-week around 9am before it gets busy. They said Saturdays are backed up to the road at times.
