yes the bulk prices are high but the prices are crashing if it keeps trending down it will be back to 150/t by jan if not sooner
which should put the retail reseller price back around 250-300
Are you saying Anthracite prices are crashing or are you thinking of Bituminous coal prices which are down considerably lately. I'm seeing charts that suggest that Anthracite coal is still on the rise.
PS: I've known my coal provider, a small mom and pop operation, and they've always been most honest with me. Here in Michigan transportation is a significant consideration in my final cost. I'm confident that Jim is taking his absolute cost and marking it up the same as he always has. Last year I paid $300 a ton.. this year $385 as of a few weeks ago.. bagged and delivered with $30 added for gas. Don't know which way it's going in the future but this winter it's better than the $1.81 I paid for propane.
I take it you are meaning cords of wood.. and not wood pellets when you say that.. cause wood pellets still can't compare with anthracite even at these crazy prices on $$ per BTU
Yes, I've got lot's of trees on my property to cut & being retired, have the time to cut & split it.
On that note, I'm only heating until we head south for the winter.... about a week before Christmas.

Got family in florida that just bought a house in Pa. right after going thru one of the many hurricanes there. Then while waiting for closing here went back to florida and just went through another hurricane. I guess theres worse things than cold weather. I kinda like both. The warmth of a coal or wood stove and snow in winter, and a warm breeze off the ocean in february in the keys. But i cant take those florida summers ,its bad enough in PA in summer.
500 a ton for bagged coal here and i'm an hour from the coal fields.
pellet prices will go up 100 bucks a ton I bet. Took my neighbor for some a few weeks ago and the price was up 50 a ton from last season.
