hydro power

Paul
Hydro is cheap .. all you need to do is build a dam. That cost is spread out through everyone. You got a sweet deal. Now toss me the end of the extension cord please.

This Bill was due May 2022.
Note 1055 kwh used.
Supply charge:$108.56
Delivery charge: $148.28
I feel yer pain Brother, that works out to like 24.3 cents per kilowatt overall. Mine is only a penny less than that.

I have no idea what 1.21 gigawatts would cost these days, we'll have to wait for fusion technology to catch up 😆

I've spent a lot of time in Connecticut, and I know it has some good-sized lakes and rivers. Maybe if enough people there get dam mad, they'll build a dam dam.

That's insane. There is no way it should cost that much for electric. That same 1055 kwh would have cost me $52.75 at this last month's rate - delivery and all.

So how can some areas be so inexpensive, and in your area they can justify that huge bill ?

Paul
I have 500% more reason than you to want solar.

That was 2022...Jan 2023 generation fees doubled..from 12 to 24. Dist. fees did not, still about 12 cents

So 1000 khw in May 2022 .. cost $240
Same 1000 kwh in Jan 2023 .. cost $ 360

The state sets what % is from renewable, coal (basically zero), Nuke, nat. gas, etc. Electric company contracts out with generators 6 mos & sets generation fees based on that. The electric company is a dist., not generator. Make no $$ off generation for the most part.

A day w/o electricity due to weather and people complain...trees knocking down lines. So they 4x tree trimming , and double dist. cost. About 30% of bill is to avoid one day a yr of no power.

The part of my bill that keeps going up is the part with NO competition. The distribution PUC regulated part. The part that allows competition (Generation)keeps going down.

What you "want" does not have anything to do with why there is such a huge difference in costs between here and there.

My gen price has more than doubled in the past year. I'm pretty sure that the distribution charge has gone up a bit as well. Bottom line is just a hair under $.20 a kwh.
