Looking for assistance in identifying this type of coal.
We are moving and have a large quantity of this coal and looking for someone to take it off our hands.

It looks like rice or possibly barley, if you post the approximate dimensions of the bin they are in (or if it's a pile) that would give people a better idea of how many tons you have.

Thanks for the reply. We have a pile measuring 25'x12'X5' in our basement.
What is the best way to find a willing taker?

That is a large amount. Due to the amount of labor required to remove it you will likely have to give it away.[email protected] wrote: ↑Tue. May. 24, 2022 9:36 amThanks for the reply. We have a pile measuring 25'x12'X5' in our basement.

According to a cubic foot weighing 54 pounds, you have roughly 40 tons if those measurements are accurate (25 ft X 12 ft) and the coal is 5 feet deep.

Couple of thoughts:
That is a lot of coal.
I don't see a boiler house on campus so it's probably below ground and been there a while. ( dusty )
A few years back there used to be a guy in Philadelphia that bagged and sold coal but I can't find him now.
Kimmels might hire a local contractor to load it and haul to their bagging plant.
CN might hire a local contractor to haul it to Chester, NY

It's quite a shame gas prices are where they are, what an opportunity!

Your home no longer has a coal heating appliance of some type???
Selling the coal with the home would make for a great way to sell the home as coal heating will save a great deal of money for the new buyer as its worth a great deal of money with delivered coal prices rising so much lately.

That is beautiful rice coal,
The fastest way to find someone to remove it is to find an excavating company with a-
"DRY VACUUM TRUCK" that is not used for sewer cleaning" that could remove the coal the very same day with a vacuum excavating truck used to find and dig out utilities as they would have the hose and piping needed to do this quickly.
The closest one would be Gilbane Building Company 215-568-8329
The rice coal could be dumped in their yard and then reloaded into an 18-22 wheeler and then delivered to the "more than willing" buyer of the rice coal.
1. Two people on the "DRY" vacuum truck truck operator and hose man.
2. loader/back hoe operator at yard
a. heavy tarpaulin plastic sheeting to keep coal clean while reloading it.
3. truck driver with 18-22 wheeler with excess weight(R) permit
a. pay for mileage
b. fuel
c. possible per day charge
An 18 wheeler dump truck and perhaps an overweight permit would be needed to do this due to highway weight restrictions in the municipalities the truck would have to drive through
It would require a bit of planning and where a trucking firm could be hired to haul the coal from the Gilbane yard and dump it at the buyers location. The cost of fuel and mileage would be paid for by the buyer.
A few phone calls to the seller and Gilbane Building Company could get the job going if the buyer is willing to hire one of their
"DRY" vacuum trucks for a day and a 18-22 wheel dump truck and pay for mileage and fuel as Anthracite Coal for heating fuel is even more expensive to for the consumer to buy.
An even simpler way to do this would be to hire a cement hauler with a dry bulk tanker truck would work even better as long as the bulk tanker truck has the plumbing to vacuum the coal out and fill the bulk dry tanker trailer and the hose needed to reach in the basement to vacuum up the rice coal as they would be able to discharge the coal quickly at the buyers place as well.
Any local concrete ready mix delivery company could direct you to a dry bulk cement hauler to contact for this job.

With the coins in the photo for reference it sure looks like barley size to me. Sometimes passed off as rice because it used to sell for far less than rice. Some stoker boilers can handle it.
Most campuses and state institutions used to heat at least partially with large coal fired steam boilers.
