Just checked the coal commodity price chart, $272.50 today down from a high of $430 on March 3rd. Maybe there is hope on the horizon?

I think with the rise in costs of natural gas and diesel we'll see an increasing trend for at least another 6 months. I'll get another semi load delivered to my shop if the prices dip below $200/ton delivered at any point.

From this site: https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/coal
"Newcastle coal futures, the benchmark for top consuming region Asia, fell below the $400 per tonne mark from September highs of around $450 per tonne, as China pledged to raise coal production capacity this year by 300 million tonnes, which is about equivalent to the amount of coal China usually imports each year. Adding to woes, Chinese coal imports for August were 15% lower compared to the same period last year, as demand remained weak due to the continued restrictive COVID policy. Still, the likelihood of a cold winter, constraints on the Chinese rail network, and a much depleted hydro generation system after historic droughts may boost the prices in the medium term."
Otherwise China found a way to make more money but it might help us too.

coal commodity closes at $229 today, just about where it was last year at this time. These crazy prices have got to come down.

$361 on the link I have up a few posts and now this one.
https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/coal
And I found C&T's mentioned site and the price is much lower, $229. And it looks like its gone down there quite a bit as he said. https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/c ... edirects=1
Maybe someone here will know why the prices are so different. They are both dropping though.

Has to be different grades. Only explanation I can think of. Lignite for thermal vs anthracite. Something like that.

Nothing more than a guess, but the businessinsider futures listing might be more US market and the other one is definitely Euro.
The businessinsider listing at least states the unit of measure, which is a metric ton, 2200 lbs, or 100 kilos. It has dropped a good bit on that listing as it was about $270 a few days ago. Can go up just as easily.
I don't put a lot of hope into what those trading markets mean for the lowly home Anthracite user. Heating oil is up and down on the futures but is at $3.67/gal at the moment. Dealers are charging $5.25 to $6.00 a gal. delivered. That's $1.00 to $1.75 a gal. more than the usual mark up over cost, even considering higher fuel and wage costs.

Just curious. Did someone reopen South Tamaqua Coal Pockets? They had closed in bankruptcy liquidation some years ago. I haven't been by there in months. Or maybe he meant American Premium almost next to STCP.

Spot Silver is $19.50 an ounce, but good luck buying a 2022 American Eagle one ounce coin for less than 40 dollars! Junk silver is 12 dollars an ounce over spot! I think the coal prices are the same way. Supply vs Demand.
