Maybe this has been covered somewhere already. I saw a guy posted on a Facebook group that I’m part of that he just picked up coal from Harmony Mine for 155 a ton.... I used to burn their coal but thought they went belly up? Anyone have any info? :annoyed:

The Harmony MINE was closed several years ago. However, Glen Burn Coal Corporation sells bulk coal at the same location----their breaker is about 1/2 mile directly north of the the coal bins/scale building. Their coal is strip mined, processed at their breaker, and trucked thru Mt. Carmel to the bins. I don't believe their current price is $155 a ton as their summer price was $160 and a friend of mine got coal right before Christmas and I believe he told me he paid $180 The name they use at this location is the GLEN BURN HARMONY MINE

I burned that coal up until i moved back to berks county in the spring 0f 2017. i really liked it. the breaker is not a wet sloppy mess like most breakers, they load you out of bins with a small loader with a 500 lb bucket.

It was reported in 2018 that Blaschak had leased the old Mallard strip mine near the old UAE Harmony underground mine. It was supposed to target the Mammoth vein, 200k to 300k tons. I seem to remember reading that the Mammoth vein in the Middle field is red ash coal? Anyone know? I know it's white ash in the southern field.

I've burned Blaschak bulk for the past 3 years and it's been all white ash. Usually 2-3 different coals mixed. Anyone gotten any red ash Blaschak bulk yet? I remember lots of folks praising the red ash UAE deep mine stuff as very low ash and good output.

I have never seen any red ash from Blaschak but I have from Lehigh ( which I run a mix of the two for the last few years), I loved Harmony coal and so did my Hitzer, burned hot as hell and very low red ash! Boy do I miss it

The lehigh im burning right now is a mix between white and red ash Id say. Its like a real light tan in color. The coal is very clean and seems to be burning well. Was hoping that someone was digging deep again at Harmony......

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, the vein got way to narrow for the machines and from what I was told (not sure if its true but doesn't sound like it) the workers were mining by hand towards the end.

Just to clarify and avoid any confusion that the Harmony MINE is open. The MINE itself was closed and sealed several years ago and more than likely will never reopen. However, the coal yard/scale house never ceased operations and sells bulk and bagged coal that is strip mined a short distance away-----this is not the same coal that was deep mined above the coal yard. It is primarily a white ash coal as the breaker where it is processed is mixing coal from different veins.

Just got coal there last week and it burns well and is clean. Not loaded with fine coal dirt like some. $185 a ton picked up. Also not overly wet. I got coal delivered a few yrs back (not sure where) and it was still draining 5 days later. I usually get it delivered but my hauler sold his truck and business.

My last ton, to fill the bin was from Mallard/UAE Harmony.Last Tuesday. Size is alot bigger than most. Pink ash. Makes good heat.
Had to lower the air twice. Once for bigger size and again for heat output. Using an 1890 baseburner.

I prefer Sherman or Mallard or Tusco to the other guys. My .02..... :what:

I called $185 a ton. They are not jumping on the price hike wagon just yet. Im moving my bin so i don't want extra for this season but with these prices its tempting.
