I’ll keep that in mind. I ended up going to a different town and the tsc there had 27 bags of miners choice for $6.49 a bag so I bought them all. They said they might get more in Thursday. Slightly cheaper then the Amish guy and a little less fuel. I happen to be there for something else so killed two birds with one stone.

Yeh that’s the thing. I looked online for Illinois and it said $6.99 so I called to see how much they had because sometimes they only have a small amount. I asked the price because I’ve actually found a few times they have local sales that aren’t advertised online and the guy said $9.99 a bag.
$10 for a 40lb bag is absurd.

The new batch is about the same quality as the last. Lots of dust and very small pieces, very inconsistent in size. I'll use it up though, it's the only kind I can buy here.

Sure sounds like good old Reading Coal that gets the TSC logo. Never did Kimmels source coal look like that!

The coal I bought from tsc the other day was miners choice. It is exactly as described above. Doesn’t take off very easily either. I sure hope they go back to their other type.

I avoid the TSC stuff if I can. My local guy charges $7.50 for a 50lb bag of good coal. He gets his from Sherman and Lehigh. The local TSC gets $10 for a 40lb bag of junk. Clinkers and red ash has largely been my experience with their stuff.

Im thinking if the bags say Miners Choice instead of Premium we should walk away from it even if its on sale.

Stay local and deal with somebody responsive who carries it year round if you can.

What other retailers besides TSC sell the Miners Choice label?
Same coal inside different label.

Well my local supplier has good quality Blaschak Stove and Nut but it's 8$ a bag. Wass $6 last season.

I had to at least try the $6.50 TSC stuff.... never again.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Will

Worth a shot. Coal has gone up, mainly because wages have gone up, and fuel has doubled. My guy hadn't changed his price in over five years. He went up a bit and was very apologetic. Its still much less than anything else.

I cleaned my last bag of miners choice and ended up with one pail of nut. The rest was fines. So that’s about 25lbs of nut and 15 lbs fines.
