My dealer has 3 levels of coal for sale . Blaschak at $239/ton delivered for chessnut. $199 for Reading and $210 for Atlantic. I opted for the Blaschak. Think is was the right decision?

I found last winters bagged Reading and Blaschak were about equal, but the reading was very wet. Bulk delivery should not make any difference.

I have used just Blaschak for quite a few years now. Like Fred, I have never had any complaints about it. I like the 40 pound bags, easier to handle than 50. My dealer is a very nice guy, and generally beats the Kimmel price.

Also used Reading for a couple years and was happy with it, but the dealer went out of business. Nobody here seems to carry Reading, don't know why.

I've never burned either to my knowledge. I am working without seeing them either.

For me, no way. I'd have tried the Reading. I burn 6 tons per year and with the savings could get a free ton compared to Blaschak.

Or at the very least, bought a ton or two of Reading to try before ordering a full load of Blaschak

I have been burning since 1985. I have had mostly good coal over the years. The few bad years can make you appreciate good coal. More BTUs, consistent burns, no rocks, less ash. It all could add up over the course of a winter.

Nut I’m in the same boat as you. I burned Lehigh last year it was great. I tried a few bags of Reading with no complaints. However the Lehigh is $285 a ton for bagged at a dealer around 20 minutes away no bulk dealers for it around me or $250 a ton for bulk Reading at a dealer 10 minutes from me. I can pick up and handle either so I’m on the fence.

Well, I have been burning Blaschak for 1 1/2 months now and I give it a C+, maybe B tops. The ash has been bony and it has a lot of shale shaped coal in it's mix. I know the run is different with each vein. Maybe I just got unlucky with my first load. How is everyone else's Blaschak this season?

Bagged and good here. Unsure if bulk and bagged come from the same source after blending or not. Someone here likely knows.

Mine was bulk nut coal. Overall dull looking. Really have to open the air vent up to get the btus out of it. Left the house for a few days and set the stove low. It didn't completely burn up. I have gone 3 days when set low with other coals in past years. Although I have not jammed my grates this year, shaking is considerably harder. Not the powdery white ash I am used to.
