I’d buy coal right now, but I’m not sure if summer pricing is better than pre-season.

When do you guys typically buy?

You have a ballpark of what a TT costs?

Is it a fau paux to tell pricing? Just curious as my supplier asked if I wanted a tt load, and at the time I said no. But now I'm wondering how reasonable that price may be. But as a guess of around $170 a ton plus trucking (which I have seen in last 2 years), that is still 4,000 plus trucking. And whats that $400 on low end. And how do you pay? CC to the driver?

Not really...
Anybody can call and get a price for a TT load...
If you have a history with a breaker and driver you may get a better price on both...
If you do 100 tons vs 1000 tons you may get a better price...
Time of year plays into it...
Summer pricing saves some, usually $10-20/ton...
The coal tends to be nicer because they are not so rushed or have a line at the breaker...
Size of coal can play into the pricing also, Buck vs rice/pea vs nut...
Different breaker will have different pricing but they are usually within $10-30/ton...
White/pink/red ash pick a breaker that has what you want...
TT load is usually 23-24ish tons...
Trucking $2-3/ loaded mile...
Do they have a back haul/girlfriend...
To The Cape is about 400 miles one way...
$800-1200 for trucking...
$3400-3800 for the coal...
$175-210/ton delivered...
Payment depends on breaker...
The total depends on the scale so...
Sometimes the trucker gives you the weigh masters ticket and you mail a check...
Sometimes you get an invoice and terms...
Sometimes you pay the trucker the whole thing and he pays the breaker...
CC cost the merchant a % to use and customers can do charge backs so most avoid CC...

Good info! Thanks. I didn't realize that there were options for payment. Now I'm rethinking the whole tt load.

Just picked up a ton of Blashak nut at Hitzer. Going back for one more ton. Picked up a vented ash pan door for try 354 as well.

I call and placed my order for a tri-axle load for Lehigh with Matt. $160 a ton and $11 a ton trucking. I am only about an hour from the breaker so I am sure that helps with the trucking. Now I need to finish installing my boiler.

Hey Ziggy, Could I ask what your triaxle load load from Lehigh was for weight? Did you arrange through Lehigh for the whole deal or get the trucker on you own? I realize that Summer prices probably just expired. Halifax is likely further from their breaker than I am. Thanks.
