Finally cut ties with TSC and found a bulk coal dealer in Federalsburg, Maryland (Holt B. Haines Co. (410) 754-5244) - just had 2 tons of nut delivered and it looked very good coming down the chute! Pretty consistent sizing, very little dust and didn't see any wood chunks or other debris. Here are a few pics:

if you don't mind sharing: where are you located and what did the coal $$$?

I am also on the eastern shore (up near Chestertown MD), and have never thought of looking SOUTH for coal...I have always looked NORTH into PA - and had trouble finding folks to deliver the distance at a reasonable price.

We live just north of Ridgely - was $240 a ton with a $60 delivery fee. I would be surprised if they won't deliver to Chestertown.

Actually I live in the Golts area, but since very few people have ever heard of it, I use Chestertown as a general 'pin in the map' location....and about twice the distance from the supplier to you (maybe 60 miles one-way)

$$$ very reasonable...now...where did you get your plastic / metal framed bins?

They look like commercial fish tanks

very slick idea. I need something like that to get away from bags..now there may be a bulk supplier around that I can use.

The Mills of Whiteford sell bulk, but I don't know if you have to get someone to haul it. The last time I talked to them they didn't"t haul bulk. The coal is Lehigh.

Titleist is spot on - they can be found pretty much anywhere and 2 will fit nicely in a 6 foot bed with the tailgate down ;)

For the "discharge" chute, I cut around the edge of where the spigot comes out and then used this (https://www.homedepot.com/p/InvisaFlow-38-in-Chan ... /203818630) to create a chute then used a scrap piece of the top to regulate the flow out of the opening. The coal flows into a medium concrete mixing tub (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Plasgad-Black-Medium- ... /205451550) for ease of shoveling into the coal bucket. This is much better than the bags (IMHO) and wish we had done it a few years ago - always a learning evolution!
