I am almost ready to pull the trigger on an AHS Coal Gun as a replacement for my current wood gasifier, but I need to check into how and where to get coal around here first. I know a local place is selling Reading Coal bagged for $235 per ton, pick up only. I am willing to drive to a mine and buy it either in bulk or in bags, or to have it delivered in bulk as well. Problem is, I have no idea where the closest mines are. I just inside the PA/OH boarder, about midway between Pittsburgh and Erie. What suggestions does anyone have for getting coal as inexpensively as possible in this area?

There are several places closer to Erie for bagged or bulk & some Tractor Supply Stores either carry or can get. Get a bit more exact with location as there are quite a few in Western Pa, I'm in the Meadville area myself & I'm sure you'll hear from others.

For some reason I can't place West Middlesex but from Beaver falls (but pretty sure there must be some closer) a run up to Pyamatuning Lake whichever way is best for you to Rt.285 there is Poffs Bait, trucking/landscaping right along the road that has bulk & can load trucks or dump trailers with no problem. Bring a fishing rod & a cooler to take dinner home.

Hop on I80 and go east. Get right from the mine if you can buy enough at a time to make the trip worthwhile. I've bought some locally and gone to the mine. There is definitely a savings buying direct, but will take a day of your time to travel out and back. And buying direct you know what your getting. My last experience buying local sucked. Coal was contaminated from the truck that delivered to the local yard and the local yard knew about it and didn't say anything until after I complained about the 'mud like junk' in my coal.

There are places in Beaver County, all listed on here if you search. I wouldn't say they have great prices though.

If it ain't PEA coal, *FirstcoalstokerRon* don't want it...AHS are picky and coal dealers are even pickier...

West Middlesex (where the OP calls home) is at I-80 and Route 18, just south of Hermitage/Sharon

West Middlesex to New Wilmington is one exit south to Rt. 208 off I-376

Linesville, PA...seek out the Amish suppliers...the others don't care about the minority that need their pea coal.

The only other alternative is Pay and Order your pea coal in bags in April (now) from a non-stocking dealer of pea coal, and they'll get it for you...I know our local Reading dealer offers this...I have his contact info if you don't have it...
