I found a local supplier for bagged Lehigh nut coal. I've never burned this before. Before I buy a ton, comments from folks currently heating with this would be appreciated. Thanks B

Lehigh pea would not stay lit for me in the summer but it does great now that I am needing heat as well as DHW.

Matt emailed after my inquiry for Lehigh nut coal. Rotz brick and block in Chambersburg is a new dealer for bagged Lehigh. I called them a couple weeks ago but at that time they were only selling rice coal. The lady said to call back as they were thinking about ordering nut coal. They have some now. I've never tried it and was looking for a little info on quality. Doesn't matter now, I'm going for a ton in the morning. It's got to be as good or better than the mix of small nut and pea coal I got from my current supplier. Burns ok but it' doesn't shake down well in my stove. PITA twice a day. Artbaldoni, call to make sure they still have some before you drive down. They'll have a 2 ton left after I pick mine up in the morning.

Thanks Rob. Glad to hear that. The grates in my Flirt don't do a very good job with flat pieces of coal that burn to a flat piece of ash . They do fine with coal that burns to a powder.

I got a 10 ton load of Lehigh bulk nut back the summer of 2015. It was a little dustier then I expected it to be but the burn characteristics far outweigh that minor inconvenience. It lights easier then other coal (except the bit I'm playing with right now) and my observation has been it has a wider range of air adjustment. It idles down really well and yet, keeping my mpd shut, open the primary up and it just cooks.

This will be the first day burning Lehigh nut. Got a ton yesterday. It will be interesting as it's to be 50* plus tomorrow. For anyone interested Rotz brick and block is off rt. 30 a couple mile west of Chambersburg . Internet directions are incorrect. Turn south at the Burger King . Really nice guys. This is their first year selling coal . $260 a ton for bagged Lehigh . Not bad pricing. I don't think they will sell by the bag as it's a block and brick yard with an office trailer, no storage buildings. They ask me about stocking stove coal and I couldn't really give them a yes or no. But they do their own trucking and indicated if someone wanted a ton they could get it next time they went for a load. Probably the same for any other size. They also stock rice coal.

To answer the PM I had asking what the problem was with the coal I had been using, not a thing, Burned fine. The problem is the flat grate in my stove is not aggressive enough to grind up the flat pieces of ash. They crumble easily with your fingers but lay flat on the grate. Every other day the stove is ash bound. I'm hoping the Lehigh burns to more of a powder.
