Where do you live? 25 degrees is practically summer. Why are you burning coal in summer? ;)
Pennsylvania, I am 19miles from the gate house at Lehigh's retail coal. and it is currently 34 and everything outside has half an inch of snow on it and the next storm is due tonight we are expected to get 5-7" more plus whatever Ice accumulates afterwards!

I guess you'd say small tonnages.
I'm only going to want a ton or so of bagged & 3 - 5 tons of bulk.
This is an old comment, but just noticed you're in Binghamton. Farm in Lisle sells rice coal for $230/ton bagged, I think $220 bulk, both pickup prices. His delivery prices are reasonable. If you found cheaper please let me know, I can pass on the guy's number if you want though.

I drive down to Tamaqua & buy it in bulk right from Lehigh. Even adding in my gas cost, it's a lot cheaper that way.

new guy here an i am looking into switching to a coal stove after i run out of all my wood as i am thinking i should just pay $500-600 once a year and not have to deal with "free" wood anymore lol.

i am in CT so just from google it's looking like i can get a pallet (60 bag/1.2 ton) for $375 - $400 i think delivered.
can't find anyone who delivers lose bulk coal yet to see the price difference.

is anyone on here in CT or know what i would have paid for 2 tons of coal in say august/September 2018?

I just got done unloading my groceries, but earlier today I picked up a load of Stove/Egg from anthracite from Lehigh 2.48 tons, $421, now the vase "fun" of shoveling it out of my trailer into my storage bin, which I have Months to do, but more importantly I won't be making another coal run until February of 2020 as there simply isn't that much left of the heating season.

My previous load of 2.31 tons lasted from 27NOV17 until this morning, I literally have Two or Three buckets left... (about 1 days worth of coal in the bin)

IF I ORDER 20 TONS FROM PENN. & PAY FOR SHIPPING [ TWICE THE COST OF THE COAL ]
DR Arnett,
How many pallets do you need?
Call every trucking company in your area. If He or They make runs to the North East, they come back also. Offer a standing order for one, two or whatever.
If they;
Return past the I-80 / I-81 intersection.
Have room in the trailer.
Can take on the 2200lbs per pallet.
You can get your coal.

The long haul market into the NE pays well. The long haul market out pays crap. The NE consumes more than it produces. They import goods and export the unwanted packaging for recycle, garbage, ect., and a limited amount of overseas imports from their port docks.
If they have room and are light they can pick a pallet or two and get it to their yard, close to you.
Be patient, it may be months, and then someone may call at 03:00 MST or some odd time, saying "I've got room, I'll be rolling past Manahoy City about 09:00 EST".
Prepay your supplier with instructions that you will call them when you have a carrier.
Pay the carrier with greenbacks that evening on your way home from work. You'll have your coal in a few days.
A Drivers time is high priority, don't waste it. Do all the phones call legwork, make sure the deal will work so the Truck can get in, get loaded and out.
