The poll options are limited because I'd have to put hundreds of them. Other things could include bagged/bulk etc. I'll be adding a dedicated page for this probably by the fall. It will have options for square footage, total tonnage per year, stove make, insulation , new/old windows. etc. The options are unlimited as far as that is concerned. You'll even be able to track your own data from year to year.

From that data I'll be able to generate all kinds of statistics. High/low cost per ton, high/low cost per region, difference between having new windows and not etc.

Just paid $225 a ton in NE Ohio, but my supplier said it was going up $10 a ton. That was priced at my picking it up. Add $25 a ton for bagged. I only burned less that 2 ton last year + 1/2 cord of wood and my house was uninsulated-which I just did the walls and attic last month so my usage should drop. Heating oil last week was $4.19 a gallon, I just love heating with coal!!!

$4.19!! It's $4.79 COD in northern Maine, contract price for the next heating season is $4.98. I can't wait to get my coal boiler!

Just Remember everytime oil goes up one penny a gallon Coal would have go up $1.68 a ton for an equivalent increase in cost

I am starting to see that some coal dealers are price gouging. A guy a little north of me in western NY wants almost $400 a ton just because he can get it from people who don't know any better because "it's still cheaper than oil". My advice is call around and buy in bulk, 10+ tons at a time and any dealer with integrity will be fair. Trucking did go up because of the fuel increase over last year, but the trucks bringing coal from the mine are running full loads which translates into less than $30 a ton increase to bring a load up to the Canadian border, places like Binghamton will see maybe a $5/ton increase but the dealers are raising the price $50+. Call around, don't let the thieves get your business - tell them to sit on their pile of coal and buy from an honest dealer.

I live in northeast Ohio. I had 3 skids of bagged Blaschak rice delivered last night for $250/ton, delivered and stacked.
Like they say, it ain't cheap but it sure beats paying for propane like we've been doing.

That is for Blaschak bagged, who is your supplier?

A skid is usually more than a ton so make sure your math is accurate.
Trucking the bulk coal to the Northeast is running $80+ per ton.
Charging more than $300/ton bulk picked up at the dealer seems a bit much, delivery is another thing.
The free market will reward the dealers who price it fairly.

There was a article in the paper the other day and to quote the owner of a large trucking company "the little guys are getting wiped out". To put it simply there isn't a lot of work to go around. AFAIK most of the firms doing business out of the breakers will be private contractors. There may very well be a legitimate price increase, although it may cost them just an additionla $30 going by your number they may have to charge more to make up for lost business elsewhere.

I bought my coal from Horner Trucking. Call Ellis at 440-537-3384.
Each skid contained 60 bags at 40# each and cost $300 per skid which works out to $250 per ton.
He's also sells bulk rice coal now.

Hey everyone. This is my first time responding to this forum. I wanted to get your opinion on something. I recently just bought four tons of rice for 250.00 a ton. However I went the other day to a local company who basically is starting to get a small monopoly. They told me I could get a ton of bulk coal for 296.00. I then asked about bagged and they told me 250.00. I picked up my father and headed down to load up the van. We loaded 40 bags at 40 pounds each. (less then a ton) went to pay and the place tried to charge me just under 400.00. My mother the following day called up the same place and asked how much bagged coal was, and she was told 9.95 a bag or 497.00 a ton. Needless to say I passed and made them take the coal out of my vehicle. I thought it was outrageous! I can't make any sense in a huge price mark up. I've said to several people it's not like they had to charge extra because they packed their own bags. As a matter of fact the bags said Reading Coal right on them, and they were dirty and left over from last year. I know that Reading has nothing to do with this price. So please tell me am I wrong, or is this company trying to take advantage of people at a time when heating a home will be a difficult task for many Americans?

Been calling around to Lehigh Valley, PA rice coal suppliers. (I am in West Easton)

Cozy Barn/Hinton & sons - Wind Gap Blaschak $5 bag ($250/ton) BUT they do not expect their shipment until late August/early September. Not sure if that price will hold.

Aernie & Hinkle - Easton $254 1ton, $234 3/ton, $229 4/ton delivered

Black Diamond Coal - Easton $215 ton delivered

Keller Coal - Northampton $242 1ton, $222 2 ton or more; bagged $7 each

1st year with stove...I really want to get my winter supply now. Bagged would be nice for first season, but I am not ruling out bulk. Have to decide where to put coal bin. Fuel oil tank sits right inside old coal window in basement. Thinking about an outside coal bin in a carport.

Anyone else from the Lehigh Valley have price quotes? Recommendations on other dealers?

Which dealers have you used? Who has the "best" coal. Who did you use to install your stove?

I live in the northeast corner of Lancaster County Pa. I called last week to check the price and was told that it was $179. /ton for pea coal. He usually has Jeddo coal. They have a minimum of 3 ton for him to deliver.Price going up August 1, so this week on goes my trailer and off I go to get it.

$325/ton for Reading bagged @ $75 for delivery of 30 miles
$300/ton for Bulk @ $2 a loaded ton per mile for delivery

One place has bagged coal for $500/ton + delivery.
