I picked up a load of stove coal last Friday from the Superior breaker 170.00 a ton and it is the best coal I have ever burned. I have been burning coal for over ten years.

If you have been burning coal for 10 yrs., you should have a decent feel for what to call good coal.
My experience with Superior was that it is a good coal,my load of 7.5 tons back in late 2014 did make higher levels of ash,but not terrible. It also had less BTU's than the Reading i switched to when the Superior was all, again,it was not terrible.
One thing we all need to remember is that coal veins vary in quality,so what is super duper coal this yr may just be marginal next yr. A number of yrs back, Superior coal had a high rating on this forum.

Yes it was. I haven't bought from them for quite some time now, was wondering how their coal is now.

I have not seen any less ash from Superior but clinkers have disappeared for at least the last couple of years. They still sell red ash or predominantly red ash. I am not sure where they are sourcing their coal from now as compared to the past but I would guess most of it comes from western Schuylkill county.
I would like to try some others sometime for comparison but I practically drive by Superior to get to anyone else.
