I just checked with my local TSC and nut coal is up to $314.50 per ton ($6.29 per 40 lb. bag). That is way up from the past 2 years. Bags say "Premium Nut Coal, Quality Anthracite". Lousy price, but in stock.

OTOH, Rural King has wood pellets at $127.50 per ton ($3.19 per 40 lb. bag), and that is their regular price.

Per million BTU's:

TSC anthracite = $12.84

Rural King wood pellets = $10.19

My buddy just saw some bags displayed on the out going area leaving the local store, and said the bags were Kimmel this year. But they never got in any skids. Seems there's just some leftovers. He reserved a couple ton of nut early in the winter, but said he got his money back, cause they were never delivered any pallets to their facility. He also said they were more expensive then previous seasons. Think he said 6.50 a bag.

after a ridiculous amount of effort i finally obtained a measly 14 bags from a not-too-distant TSC. the quality was much worse than last year IMHO, lots of unburnable stone jamming up the works that forced me to shut it all down, rake it all out, and start over, every 2 days or so.
i finally did what i should have done in the first place and had 3 tons of bulk delivered that came from Sherman Coal. much better than what i was getting from tractor supply this year.

The TSC Kimmels rice burns nice with very little fines, dust. Can the public buy (bagged) Kimmels direct from their bagging facility? Understand I'd have to pay for shipping... Where are they located ?
My TSC Rice has been excellent. No fines..amazing. Not soaking wet at all. Burns nicely in this sub zero temps for weeks now. Paid @275 per ton.. happy with that being here most locals are thieves. And yes TSC is local ..hires local.

Thanks Captcaper. Is the bag of rice you are currently buying white plastic with blue lettering with no other manufacturer's name except TSC ?

Kimmels sold by TSC ~2 years ago came in a woven fabric bag, that is why I'm asking :)

My buddy is still cursing them plastic woven bags, cause he didn't use them all last season, and they all broke apart on him.

I've never ever seen wood pellets that cheap around here. $249 per ton for mediocre brand. $279+ for the Dry Creek at Agway, which I thought were much better quality than the big box store's Stove Chow.

All wood pellets are not created equal, maybe they are to the average goon lol.

Yes.... I had the woven bags way back as well. Yes the left overs rotted in the sun if not used until the following season. The new bags started last season 2016 -2017...they are great with handles. Black lettering white non woven bags.

Did you rice buyers have trouble with water in them? On the nut bags i had maybe 15 I did not poke holes in and they are still damp. I bought them in the spring and have been indoors. Those bags must really be sealed tight. The ones i poked holes in were dry, just a hole punch of small holes in each one.

Wood pellets are $4/bag here now and those are good ones. Other than using to save a coal fire I wouldnt pay $2/bag to go back to them. But i wouldnt want a stoker either. Hand fires for me.

I picked up a ton of nut on Friday. They had it in stock, which was nice. The bags are $6.29 each, but they give discount for buying a ton and it totaled at $299. The sizing is much better this year than last. I expect to run out in early March.

My buddy picked up a few of these bags from a CT TSC, and said they were told this stuff came from the Kimmel mine. This looks like the same crap that I got last year, and saw on the bag it came from Reading. Don't know what's up with that. Only know they never got a supply of coal this season, and bet this stuff is just leftover from last year.

I got a pallet of that "premium nut" from TSC not long ago. Had a Reading package slip stuck under some bags. I happen to stumble across a Family Farm&Home store not far from me a few weeks back. Never head of it. I went in and much to my surprise they had bagged anthracite. Black bags labeled Reading. $5.99 Now is this the same Reading that's selling "premium nut" to TSC??
