What Brand Bagged Coal Do You Think Is Best?

It's been claimed on here numerous times that the 'white ash' is better than the 'red ash'. Red ash coal will produce clinkers when burned hotter. Clinkers are no fun, but if you have a stove that doesn't have grates made to break them up, it can turn a person off of coal very quickly.

Keegs,
There is a 'learning curve' to burning coal. Once you've figured it out, you will be a warm, happy coal burner.

One or two people got some bags that had 'Reading' in small print. No one else knows for sure about the rest as they aren't marked.

TSC is a crapshoot, you get what the warehouse ships and that could be anything judging from their history.

I do know one that can be ruled out. That would be 'Lehigh' as I posed that question to Matt.
It's probably a good bet that it wouldn't be Blaschak either, as it is generally a more expensive product than anything else from what's been posted on the forum.

I have burned all of the above except Reading. I find the Chubby is able to use any of them. Lehigh seems to have the longest burn times and lowest amount of ash. My supplier is waiting for a delivery so I am burning Kimmel's today. The Kimmel's starts fast and can wake a low fire up. Santa coal works great too. I guess for me it comes down to how far to drive, to get it as well price.

Yeah... not a big fan of getting up in the middle of the night to feed the wood stove. Coal may be my ticket to a full night sleep.

I've been getting nut from TS and it has been Kimmels until mid December. Now the bags say TS on them and no other indication of where it is from. I assume my TS store was selling coal left over from last year until they used it all up. I had to go to a different store to get nut last week as the one closest had no nut. Kimmel's has burned well in my Penn ( Chubby knock off ) stove. TS has the best price in my area.

One more point..... I can only speak to the current stove size product that LA is currently delivering because that's the only coal I have burned from their mine.

I absolutely do not regret splitting 45,000 lbs with my friend. In fact we are so impressed with the current quality and have another empty shipping container to store it in, that we are thinking of splitting another 45,000lb load.

That's what others here on the forum have reported. The information is scattered around the forum in about 30 different locations.
