I just thank God when I get 23 tons for $150 a ton on my doorstep ... incredible deal. Thank you PA. I gotta have food and heat so other things need to go.

How much water weight could a 23 ton load have if taken right off of breaker? I suppose it would depend on the coal size. Has a full load off the breaker ever been weighed then sat overnight and weighed again after water had an opportunity to drain off?
I was told that for a 24 ton semi load there is about 300-400# of water ,not sure on the size of the coal, likely rice.

So about 30# per ton.....whoopee ..

$30-50 for no dust, no fines, and no chunks of nut coal from the loader bucket...sounds like a deal to me.

so at the high end of this example $54.00 worth of water in that 24 ton load.

i'm REALLY cheap, i don't drink bottled water, get coffee at starbucks ( or anywhere else for that matter ) and when i'm buying coal i don't pay for water.

i got my load from the dry indoor storage and shipped tarped. i had less fines in that 23 tons than i usually have in 3 tons of local bulk. my stoves don't even notice fines and i don't store coal inside and only transfer from the hod directly into the hopper with enough draft to watch what ever dust there is get sucked right in and down.

it's your money, do it your way, it's only right.

If buying coal for hand fired equipment I think the trade off is different. Some wood or oversized coal is not going to ruin your day.

20 pieces of nut coal mixed in a load of rice can ruin multiple days.

So, I've discussed this with a fellow coal burner about 5 miles away from me. We are looking at splitting a load of bulk stove size.

Are there any savvy ways to split it? Guess I better consider getting a pile of buckets hahaha.

Haha the only way to actually split it, would be to know the actually weight of the coal you have in the trailer, back it onto a set of portable scales, and start dumping, put the trailer back down once you see you have lost half the load.. no one I know has a portable set of scales, besides at my job lol but I can’t borrow them..

300-500 pounds of water is about right...
Depends how the TT is parked overnight...
Dump end down a slope helps...
The truck gets re-weighed before and tared after delivery...
The TT driver usually will not dump twice...
You would be better splitting the load by volume...
Using a loader bucket filled to the same volume...
One for you One for me...

When that tt dump gets up high enough for 22 tons of black diamonds to head out the tailgate, its like trying to stop a train wreck. NO WAY are you gonna cut that off at 11 tons !
