I bought a bag of stove size coal this week end and tried it. The name is Coal Contractors and it comes in 50 lb bags. I was under the impression my 35 yr old box stove was designed to burn 'nut size the best per the manufacturer. I've burned Reading, Blashack, and Kimmels 'nut and this coal beats them all. The fire was consistent, the heat output was precisely as needed based on the stove setting and the ash grey and powder like and close to half compared to the Kimmel's 'nut I have been burning. I highly recommend this brand if anyone has a chance to try it. I have a delivery scheduled for later in the week.
Get while you can....link to the article claims they have less than 10 years reserve left in the Stockton mine.

We had some of their nut coal last winter, it burned excellent and produced a powdery ash like you described.
Stockton is one of the suppliers to Coopersburg Bagging Company. Once they are finished with the Stockton mine they will move to a different piece of property in the area.

Most of the time they left it behind as pillars and supports because it was keeping the mountain from coming down or in on them!!!unhippy wrote:Or you could be getting the coal they left behind for a reason ...........dcrane wrote:we get to use the quality coal our great grandfathers used???
Or in the case of the Pittston mine, it kept the river from leaving it's banks and draining into the mine system which it eventually did and killed the ant mining in NE PA.

I get there nut size in bulk from my dealer for the past few years, I think it's right up there with Harmony( deep mined) and Direnzo. I love there coal and will keep buying it . Burns real good in a hand fired stove but you need a very good draft for it to burn correctly.
