The Europeans bought huge amounts of pellets this past Fall due to the sanctions against Russia. That put quite a dent in production. Plus we have had a real Winter so supply is tight.
I will have next Winter's coal in the cellar and ready to go by May. Looking at the mess the world is in we all should do the same.

Ordered 3 tons of coal yesterday .. it will be here by friday.

No pellets? That sucks for whoever has a pellet stove I guess.

My guess is that many pellet burners buy them as they need them, so demand is highest when it is most difficult to produce and truck the pellets. If more people bought what they need in the summer it would be better for everyone. Same goes for coal.

That's very true. When people jumped on the pellet wagon, little thought went into a storage place for a winter's supply or they don't have room. So they just buy 10 bags at time thru the winter. Looks good on paper, but don't work in the field

It sure seems that if the Pellet Producers had enough storage, they could make hundreds of thousands of tons in the GOOD weather, however they don't 'store' as well as coal, and moisture and pellets equals expensive sawdust...... Coal production is tough in crappy weather and a killer in the winter, so we all face the same dilemma.......It sure won't go bad under any circumstances, so when time and funding permit, start the supply train at your own place.
