RR Coal - 2014-2015
I had been burning nut coal in my kozy king, and I wanted to try some pea coal, to help slow down the burn on the milder days.
I tried RR last year and it was OK. Some fines and dark red ash, and clinkers. I stopped in again last week since its the closest breaker to the house.
Much to my surprise, the coal this year is super clean, virtually no fines, and shiny. It is white ash, no clinkers, and the ash content seems to be noticibly less than the old coal I was using. I called RR and asked, they said they now get their coal from a supplier near Hazleton.
It is $180/ton, but with the proximity to the house and a fine product, I'll be going back this week for a full load!

Yes. R&R moved in what used to be Meadowbrook and Meadowbrook now has R&R's old place. I heard the story about it but forgot the details so it must have not been too interesting, but R&R is now in Lykens and Meadowbrook is in Good Spring.tsb wrote:They used to be Meadowbrook Coal ?
I wasn't sure, but I just pulled Google Maps street view from 2008, and sure enough, it did used to be Meadowbrook coal.tsb wrote:They used to be Meadowbrook Coal ?
The amount of ash that I'm getting from this coal is way less than what I was getting from another supplier. I would dare say it's on par with the old deep mined UAE coal, and white ash to boot!

Have you tried DiRenzo Coal, Rt 209 Minersville. It should be within 5 min difference of RR
I got some but I can't get it to the house until the ground freezes solid.

Have not tried it yet. Most of the 380 lbs of RR I bought has been burned, maybe a trip to DiRenzo is in order.LoschStoker wrote:LDPosse

I got two loads of coal from RR the first load was red ash. It burned good but did have a lot of fines and a lot of ashes. The second load is white ash and not many fines at all. I am still burning the first load and only burned enough coal from the second load to clear it away from the tail gate on my trailer to be able to unload it with the tractor. I got the first loan the end of October and the second load the last Saturday in November.
