Just called our local store in Plattsburgh, also 4.99 a 40 lb bag, that is so cheap! Right now the cheapest around here for bagged is 295 a ton, tractor supply is only 249 a ton, ridiculous! But they only have one ton of rice right now, but I don't see why they couldn't order it..

lsayre wrote:Kimmels anthracite can be seen on the TSC website as of today. They are only listing nut, and they are displaying it as being in 40 lb. bags for $4.99 per bag. Despite my dissapointing phone conversations with local TSC's, if it is on their website it should be capable of being ordered for transfer to a local store, whether they like it or not.
You can put in zip code to see how local it is available.
I see some available in York, Pottstown, Temple etc.

Interesting, as it could be a good back up for many people, or obviously for anyone that cannot get it under $250 ton.

I did bagged for a while there, but so glad to have 4+ ton sitting in my bulk bin.
I did do bagged this summer, and the TSC is cheaper than I was paying....I also go to TSC a lot for other items....
...just not available at the few that are around me.....yet

Yup, http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/kimmels-coa ... coal-40-lb

But ,at that price for a 40 pound bag, that's equivalent to $6.24 for a 50 lb bag. I can get Blaschak nut or stove for $6.00 a 50 lb bag at a coal dealer less than half the distance to my nearest TS.

I tried the zip code thingy GP mentioned and it says the local TS has it in stock, but with coal dealers north and south of them selling bagged and bulk, I wonder how much and how long they'll sell ?

I burned a ton of it last year and never had a problem, I'm sure there's good and bad

You must have gotten the good stuff then. I've never had a bad bag of Santa, but I'm sure lots have.

Perhaps when it's broken down into sizes less than stove it burns better?

I am in NW Ohio and was taking a look at different stores. Looks like Fremont and Sandusky, OH stores are the only ones selling it in NW ohio. The Adrian, MI store has it as well. Still plan on buying from the few locally owned businesses who are selling it but good to know there is some available in a pinch

Same here, but I'm thinking I will buy half a ton or so from TSC just to encourage them. :)

Just talked to a TSC manager from Queensbury, NY. He said they have nut and have pea coal coming. They are just testing the market but can order it for $4.99/bag.

Any of them should be able to order it if you take them the item number from the web page. My local store had nothing in stock but happily ordered a pallet for me which should be here early next week.

My local store has one pallet. As has been said, they are testing the water.
Bought 5 bags to try. Coal wet in bag and weighed 42 pounds. Clean bags.
Coal had a lot of fines clinging to each piece which when dry will probably fall off as dust. Size uniform and good.
