That would be about $285/ton then? I got my coal delivered for that price this year ... 7 tons at once....Jeanie wrote:My Tractor Supply store came through this yr. Bagged Anthracite coal. 40lb bag I believe is 5.99 with a 5% discount. It's Kimmel, so far I'm happy with it.

I scored a good deal at my local TC. They had a bunch of 1 ton pallets of bagged nut coal Kimmels which I have been happily burning all winter. New store so maybe they were unsure of how much they would sell and got a standard ordered which was way to large for my are . 289 a ton was the standard price they lowered it to 250 a ton.

All the stores in my area have a sale at $4.99 per 40Lb bag.

After calling to confirm that they had the Kimmels Nut on hand I drove 20 miles to a R.I. T/S today only to find that what they actually had was some funky generic brand. $4.99 a bag isn't cheap enough to get me to roll the dice on a no name coal I know nothing about.

LOL!
I beat you all! They had it here in the Delavan WI TSC. People didn't know what to do with it! The Sales People had no idea either! I watched it all Winter. Too much wood stacked already, couldn't justify the switch.
Anyways, the Rice didn't sell at all. They put the last ton of Nut on clearance along with the Rice. Between the Sale price and my 10% off coupon, I ended up paying $224/ton for the Nut! I was tempted to buy the Rice for potential Trading/Resell but didn't.
Anyways the plan is to keep stockpiling till the wood runs out, by then I'll be too old to mess with wood and we'll burn coal till the "house tightening" projects are all done. We live in a big old converted barn that wasn't sealed up for Energy efficiency, now the kids and school bills are gone, we are looking at sealing up the leaky house.

Good job dru!
I have been signed up for TSC email's for over a year and have never gotten the 10% coupon offer. I think there is somehow more to it.

My tractor supply , I got 4 ton of rice, it was 5.99/bag, but the gal knew where to look in the computer to find the "sale" , "promotional" list, I watched the screen with her, as she scrolled down the rather long double spaced list, we went thru a couple pages and there it was , 5%, so she did it at the up front cash out computer. That was for the first ton. I spoke with the new manager and he said he could do 10 % , any more and he would have to contact corporate for approval, .....? But this time I watched them just go thru the front cash out computer and when the sku is entered, the item comes up , and there is an F function or something that brings up the optional discounts, 5 % and 10% were in there, and a third option to enter whatever # discount you want to put in!!! I see this as very important info to know, they can do , it is very easy, how ever, if a 50% discount was given , it might lead to future problems for that employee.
I also see that There are many Tractor supply stores with plenty of rice coal, I am thinking that they ordered too much rice and are now stuck with it. I think most people burn nut, but then there is always some one who burns 10 or 12 tons of rice, to offset that. It is a tough call to guess who will buy what. and come out clean in the end.
