Ok, I dumped the other three bags of TSC nut into buckets. While they had more small bits and fines than the first bag (beginner's luck ?) I wouldn't say it's a lot. Maybe the worst bag had enough to fill two soda cans with pea sized on down to fines (dust size).

However, the rest was rather consistent in size. Hardly any in between the pea and nut size. And I was surprised at how consistently wet it was. Just enough to not throw dust while pouring the bags into buckets, but no water running out of the bags, as I've had happen with Kimmels and Blaschak.

Now, just need a few more days to see if it averages out to burn as long as the bulk I get, and how the ash is.

Paul

My dealer raised they're spring prices 30% this year but it was good burning Blaschak rice with just the right amount of water, very few fines. It's now $284.00 a ton bagged. I either act soon for the spring price or wait and see what TSC offers. TSC is also a lot closer.

Got the TSC Pre-season discount flyer today, shows discounts for pellets and wood fuel bricks but doesn't mention coal. Are they not going to offer coal this year? I REALLY hope they are, the next nearest coal dealer is 32 miles away as opposed to 6 to TSC.

The big worry has always been that TSC would (over time) drive many to all of the locals out of the bagged coal supply business, and then turn around and drop coal from its line-up due to not being able to make a sufficient profit while selling it at such low (essentially teaser) prices.

Yes I just checked at the store. They have coal in stock and are going to check to see if the discount applies to coal as well.

Store called today, said the pre order discount doesn't apply to coal this year but they do give a 5% bulk discount. Might wait for the 15% friends and family discount in the fall for the last ton. I used 283 bags last winter. $6.29/bag here.

We have the coupon for 10% off anything. Will do that this year if no pre order discount. Still better then the other sellers here.

Hope you find all 6 tons to be as youv've become accustomed to. :)

It is always a curiousity to see if TSC switches suppliers for a better profit margin. ;)

To me coal is coal.. TSC won't sell me rocks and call it Rice Anthracite.. I've been burning coal since 1981 and gotten it from many many sources and never had "bad" coal.. it did it's job just fine.. The biggest issue I have had over the years since going to the "bagged" route is getting bags of quality.. got the best yet from TSC last season.
As long as I save some money and don't have to travel or be at the mercy of my local guy.. TSC is local ..hires local as well..
