Thanks guys. I did email them, and they were quite vague. Figured personal experience here would be more accurate.

I would call each coal breaker, offer them 5# of homemade fudge & ask if they could dry the quantity you want or else could they freeze it into manageable blocks ,then just load enough blocks to get the weight you want, take it home, unload it & then carry some chunks into the warm to thaw b4 burning it.jschaefer7406 wrote: ↑Tue. Jan. 02, 2018 12:45 pmHi guys,
Can anyone comment on whether the Lehigh coal is wet? Usually buy Direnzo, but with the ~2 hour trip home, it will likely freeze before I get back.
Have read some say that Lehigh was dripping wet, some say depends on inside or outside. Looking for pea or nut, if it matters.
Thanks,
Joe
Maybe you will get lucky & find someone with dry coal stored under cover ?

Hey, that sounds like a plan!
Sorry for asking such a stupid question, why would it matter if it was wet when it’s 11 out, right?

There are some dealers who have coal under cover... may be higher priced, but it may be worth the extra $$ right now.

Thanks. Honestly, I don’t care if it was wet and already frozen; long as it’s already frozen when loaded and not after (if that makes sense).
Not sure if you saw my other post, but last year I had a load from Direnzo freeze solid after being loaded wet.
I realize no one can predict whether it’s wet from rain, snow etc.. Mostly was curious if they purposely wash it, and if so, at what point prior to loading. If it’s already frozen on the ground and loaded with a Bobcat or similar, should break it up a bit.

We have coal on stock that is not soaking wet, it will however have some ice in it from being in the elements. Most days we do have coal inside our building that has been sitting for sometime. I can never guarantee 100% dry coal, if i did that i would get complaints about dirtjschaefer7406 wrote: ↑Tue. Jan. 02, 2018 1:58 pmThanks. Thanks, Matt. Like I said, not worried at all as long as it doesn’t freeze into a block during the drive back.
To those who have traveled to Lehigh from I-80; what’s the terrain like between 80 and the breaker? I usually go 54 to 901 to the normal spot, and the truck doesn’t particularly care for the long hills. Trip to Lehigh any better, or?
Thanks,
Joe

I got some a couple months ago from up top(where its not covered, and loaded with a wheel loader), since I usually pick up ~6 tons. It was pretty dry, little damp. Nothing to complain about, it was 15 minutes right before some serious wintery mix came in. Drove it home in ~1.5 hours and didnt have any trouble shoveling it.

I was lucky enough to score a ton and a half of Lehigh and my Axeman loves it. Zero unburned coal in the ash, that's a first for me!
