It is getting toward the end of my coal burning season, even though it is only 20 degrees out in mid afternoon, and did get down to -6 last night, my 28th night below zero this year. I am going to give a review of the coal I got from Lehigh anthracite this year. I have been burning rice coal in an Alaska Channing III for 6 years now. I always bought coal around my area in North Central NY each year, but decided to buy a Tri-axle load of 22 tons from a breaker in PA this past fall to save some money. After doing research mostly through this web site, I decided to go with Lehigh. I usually burn coal from about Nov. 10, until late March, when I usually head to Florida for a couple weeks. Most years I burn between 3.5 & 4 tons of coal. This year I will burn about 3.7 tons of the Lehigh coal, but it has been much colder this year then the last few. I get less ash this year then I have had with my coal from past years. I think the Coal does burn hotter. I am very happy with my purchase of coal from Lehigh, and when I need more in about 5 years, I will go back to them. Only negative was I got a few large pieces mixed in with the rice coal. I caught most of them before I poured the Coal in my hopper, but missed one of them once, and it got caught in my auger, and my stove went out overnight. Overall, very happy with the Lehigh coal.

Is Lehigh still a T/L only proposition?

You cannot believe the ad that pops up on this site.
Someone had called them already and it is a T/L only size sales.

It wasn't false when they created the ad.

Gorpot, thanks for the review. Pieces of larger coal mixed in with rice can be an issue from many suppliers...pieces get stuck in the loader bucket, truck body, hole in screen, etc. A screen in/on your hopper would be good insurance.

I got a TT load of buck from Lehigh , just under 23 tons last November and could not be happier. The service was top notch and the trucking company could not have been better. The only negative on the experience was mother nature and the 1" of rain we got the day before delivery.

I had been burning UAE for a few years, once they closed the under ground operation, I bought some Lehigh. Picked up about 4 tons of nut for my VC. Ash was higher than UAE, but was still reasonable. Heat out put was better than UAE, and after last winter, that was a good thing! Only down side was a tad more fines than I care for. Still great coal over all, just that excessive fines can really have an impact on air flow in the coal bed.

Yesterday I drove up to Lehigh Anthracite and brought home 1.72 tons for $275.20 ,that breaks down to $160./ton. It is a large operation and I took my hard hat along since I wanted to get out of the truck while being loaded. This is a safety oriented location. The process for me was to sign in at the gate and get a badge to wear. Since it was my first time there and I could have gotten lost at the site. I was escorted to the correct scale and then up to the coal piles. They are not able to load pick ups at this moment because they use a very large bucket loader to load with , looked like a 10 or 12 ft bucket on it. They are presently in the process of setting up for pickups using a dedicated area and smaller loading equipment. I trust they will post on here when they work out the final details. The coal looks beautiful. The coal looks clean. The coal looks well sized, I don't know what else to say other than I am very pleased with the entire process and cannot wait to lite some up and try those 12,500 BTU's/lb out. The folks working there are wonderful to deal with . If you want to go there I suggest you call Terry [as previously mentioned] for any questions such as hours of operation, new details etc,.. He knows what there is to know about the place. I hope the future will see sales to all sized users from this location. MIke

When I follow the advertisement to their website it gives two different locations. One is Armagh and the other is Tamaqua. Which location do they serve customers looking for less than a TT load? Has anyone used both lehigh and Lenig in Shamokin?

There is only one location to buy at, they had a small scale retail location for a very short period of time that is no longer open. If you are still finding two locations, the second in Armagh is probably an office location. For the breaker, take 209 out of Tamaqua toward Coaldale. Make a left about 1.3 miles from the intersection of 309 and 209. Cross the train tracks and stop at the trailer on the left. Bring a hard hat if you have one (or get the loaner) fill out the safety paperwork and turn left up to the scale. Drive on the left hand side of the road like the Ukes, the guy in the trailer can give you specifics. They should load out anything that is not a pickup. To give you an idea, the loader they used to fill me was a bit bigger than the 9 ft long dump bed on my 29,900 GVW Brigadier.
