Just a heads up if you are on The Cape...
Iron House in Hyannis has LEHIGH nut bulk in the bin...
Another load is arriving in the net few days...
Our records do not indicate any coal being picked up by the Iron House as of yet. They are on the schedule but they haven't picked any up as of now, therefore it isn't in the bin yet. There first load is scheduled to arrive Saturday as of now..

OK guys, I LOVE my Lehigh this year, 23 tons of pure energy and as I asked for it straight from the breaker, no fines. Now I understand you can specify pure Mammoth vein. What are the advantages? After this disastrous winter, I will need another 23 tons this spring.

We are due for a load this summer also, and strongly considering two TT loads to stock up, I’m also interested in the difference.

How could we tell what we have now?

I got 10 tons delivered 2 summers ago and on the weigh slip it showed which vein the coal came from. My case was Monmouth and it burns great, also red ash. So if you have your last weight slip it should tell you what vein it came from.

Normally the most obvious difference is ash fusion. The flatbed stoker guys tend to get excited with the ash starts to form large clumps, or stick to the stoker side rails...so it may be helpful to tell your coal man what you are running, and what coal characteristics you want.

So much to learn, I will never get out of coal college at this rate. :D

My coal seems about right. When my main stove is run flat out fusion does start at very high heat but it is moderate. I can control it with the comb. fan. I sure get tons of heat so I am happy.

I just pulled out my Lehigh weigh slip to look at it. The load date is 8/16/16 and under the description it says Nut Mammoth. I assume that it means that it came from the Mammoth vein. All I can say is it's red ash and when I burn hot it is subject to getting crunchy when I shake the ashes down like the iron fusion thing with red ash. It doesn't form true clinkers but my driveway is starting to turn reddish pink from it.

I'm still a newbie (2yrs.) but is it possible that the properties of the coal can very within a vein.

I don't think I will ever get out either. :)

The ash can vary in color from any vein.
