I was wondering if anyone is burning Hudson coal. They are convenient to the Pittston exit off the highway but most of the talk is about southern coal.

I burn it year round. No problems with this years stuff at all.

Me too. EFM 520... I would rather have some of that deep mined stuff down south, but its 2 hours away.

Thought there was no operating deep mines in PA? Coalburner use to post stats like that. Sure there is somewhere to look it up, permits wise.

The only difference between deep mined and stripping is there is less likely to be rock in the raw coal. That of course can be alleviated through the separation plant which ultimately determines the quality of the product. I don't know specifically where Hudson is getting it but a very large part of it is coming from the "South", most likely the Hazleton area.

Hudson has always had a good product ranging from decent to sometimes outstanding. One thing about them is you always have consistent sizing especially on the rice, there isn't going to be a piece of barley in it.

my son is burning it for 2 years now and has no complaint, hopefully this summer I want to get a test batch for my self. jr is mixing 50/50 rice/buck, in a koker, i'm looking to try pea.

Im on my second season with Hudson rice coal, but its all Ive ever burned in the efm so I have no experience with anything else I did burn Casey nut in a hand fired for one year but thats the limit of my experience.... Now ,if'n ya wants to know about wood , the only advice I can give you is to" keep at it , It'll make you better appreciate the coal when you do smarten up"
