Hello all. Ive been burning wood for years but my furnace can burn both. I live in east central ohio right along the river and was looking for somewhere to purchase a truck load of coal. I want to start keeping some coal on hand for when the weather gets like it was last week. I'm only looking to fill up the bed of my pickup truck and I can pick up and shovel the coal if necessary. Any info would be appriciated and thanks!

Hello and welcome

There are many things to learn here, I'm guessing you are looking for soft(bituminous)coal. What is the town closest to you? Oxford reclamation in Perry county has lump coal.

I only live about 30 miles north of you. Holloway is located near Piedmont Lake and is the nearest source for soft coal that I was able to find when I burned it several years ago. I also bought soft coal from Thompson Bros. which is much farther from you. I have no idea what the business hours are now at Holloway. I believe that they were open only a few days per week. Try calling them on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday morning to see if they are open. My source for Anthracite is Heet Inc. which is not far from you in Washington Pa........... and they deliver. I saw the light.............and now burn Anthracite!

Welcome Newbs37 ! We've started to have a Good Turnout of Folks from Southern Ohio lately. It's a Pleasure to see and meet you all. Research the Threads, fill in your info so Folks can help you at a glance, and don't hesitate to use the Google Search bar in the upper right of this screen for any coal topic imagineable. We've got a Gent that goes by Willis down your way that may also be able to help. I had Deer Hunted the Piedmont Lake Area(Flushing Twp) as a Kid(I'm 53 now). The Strip Mines were still in Production back then. I was still around when the Reclaim Efforts were going on. It was a Great Area with some amazing Folks back then. Hope it's still treating you good now. Take Good Care!

Tunnel Hill Reclemation Center in New Lexington is where my lump comes from. $75 a ton. You can load yourself or have them load you. They are occasionally open on Saturdays and have pretty decent coal it seems.
