If Im paying $400 per ton for coal here and oil prices here in MA. are say $3.50-$3.85 per gallon (and coal cuts my heat cost damb near in half).
and assuming oil prices are pretty much the same everywhere (between $3.20 - $3.90 per gallon)... than WTF are you people in PA saving per year burning the ground you literally walk upon

(coal is cheap as "dirt" in PA because it IS your dirt!

That's the highest price I've ever seen in print. Roughly how many miles are you from anthracite ground zero?

I paid $175 per ton, bulk, picked up, twenty minutes from home this year. I will not burn through more than a ton and a half for the season.
Haven't had a drop of oil in my house for ten years but when I did... I could burn about four hundred gallons a year.

To answer your question, I'm saving enough to make it worth my while.

*censored* two years ago, I didnt start burning until December because I was in the Caribbean on business. The whole years coal cost less than a hundred.

i agree, ima have to figure something out coalvets in RI and he only payed like $275 per ton.... I might just drive out their, I need to get his supplier again.

It may be that your closer to damn high priced Boston to.... May be a bit cheaper out it the western part of the state?

Fuel oil price today in Harrisburg, PA $3.90/gallon. A 180 gallon fill up is a little over $700.00. The equivalent amount of heating potential is found in 1 ton of coal. I paid $235.00/ ton delivered. That's how much I'm saving every 900 Degree Days! So I'm saving about 66%

my savings this season alone will pay for my used KA6. All gravy after that.

I pay 289.00 per ton for reading bagged and tagged and I am a lot further from ground zero. Now Dougie boy what is the average housing cost in your neck of the woods. Do you live where the beautiful people live? I'm not trying to rain on your parade but remember Massobamasetts is anti coal! Spmeone has to pay for all the "tax credits" those beautiful wood burners (pellets included), are lined up for.

Not so funny. I know a plumber here who became a Reading dealer mostly so he could supply a bunch of apartment houses owned by a business associate whose boilers he maintained. I got his name from the apartment owner, whom I knew. I thought it was kind of odd when I called him and he said, "I guess I can let you have a couple of tons," like he was doing me a favor. Then I put two and two together and figured out what was going on. The next year his buddy with the apartments ordered direct from Penn Coal or somebody, and the coal guy went out of business which I don't believe he much wanted to be in anyway. I think he went on and off the Reading dealers' list before they could even get him onto the dealer-locator page of their web site.

That's not to say YOU would have to run your business that way. But being Massachusetts, you might not break even at $400.

.... I aint looking so beautiful when im hearing $450.00 per ton
