One More Rookie Coal Question

Now that I know pea coal is different than rice coal is that why my stove makes good heat but not too overbearing heat? The stove is a surdiac gotha 713. I am happy with the stove and what it makes for heat, but I have been wondering if it could be hotter. Don't get me wrong I am pleased with coal heat. When I read the owners manual the other day it said use pea coal. Is it ok run the last 2 bags I bought? Will it hurt my stove running the last of rice coal? Like I said I am new with this coal stuff. Yes I am using rice coal at the moment.

You will get more heat with pea coal because it is able to burn faster.

Remember it is a circulator stove so only the front will give strong radiant heat.

Raise the hopper for pea coal for a deeper bed and longer burns.

With my old Buderus 3115 pea coal just seemed to suffocate itself. That was many years ago, no forum, I just had to make my own conclusions. I may have been wrong, but it just seemed to run at lower temps and did not get going like nut did. European stove with a shaker grate, hopper fed.

He was burning rice coal and wanted to know about pea. The Surdiac has a shallow bed so air has no problem getting through.

Wow, its amazing rice coal will even burn at all in a hand fed. Must be good draft lol. Pea will probably do much better though. :D Shouldn't hurt anything using up the rest of your rice..

Pea should burn hotter than rice, and nut should burn hotter than pea. Your stove may recommend pea only, so keep that in mind before attempting nut.

Where's the stove located and how many square feet are you trying to heat?

I have burned buck in hand-feds before, and it definitely requires a strong draft. I am surprised that he got rice to burn successfully.

My cousin used to be able to burn rice in a Franco Belge, he got it for free. He had to get a fire going first with pea coal, I don't know how you would do it otherwise without all the coal falling through the grates.
