Hi Hunter55v,

Do you have a price per ton bulk & bagged? Have you used this coal for a while that you can tell approximate % of stone content?

I ask about the stone because I was getting what I feel was a high amount of stone content per 50lbs, I figure about 18%. This was from another supplier in CT.

Do you guys ever get coal from Dave @ Back to Basics in Terryville?

I've been using Blashak for about 10 years now and have never had a problem with stones. It comes in 40 pound plastic bags. Just the right size bag for me. Although 40 lbs is starting to get heavy to me now.

I've used other brands over the years before before using Blashak but so far I've had great results with Blaschak. The ash content may vary from year to year but thats about it.
I can use Pea, Nut, or Stove coal size in my stove.

I never saw any stone in Blaschack coal.

This is the first year I tried bagged coal, they are 40lb bags with a picture of Santa Claus, might be Blaschack coal Co. This burns much cleaner than the bulk stuff I bought the last 3 seasons. I won't name the coal vendor I bought bulk on this board, but I can tell you I get a lot of stone especially last season coal. Also I got quite a few large chunks mixed 2 years ago that caused an issue with my auger.

I went bagged this year because this brand wasn't offered bulk, and it was cheaper than my previous supplier.

I know nothing about coal, but this bagged stuff seems to burn good.

Santa Claus coal is Blaschack coal.

Dave is a great person to work with. Used to do a lot of business with coal delivery to east of the river until his tax man said it was not economically feasible to send a truck over the river unless it was a full 6 pallet load....and even then there was some hesitancy due time to deliver. Most of his customers are in his area....he does sell LL Stokers and is a great guy to work with nevertheless.

I'm going to Terryville tomorrow. Ugly, the kid that works on the weekend will use his personal F350 to make deliveries, I'll post his name tomorrow as I can't remember right now.

I went to Back to Basics on Sunday. They charge 290 per ton. It's a 124 mile round trip for me. I bought my wife a Land Cruiser, so I had to start driving the minivan. The Honda Odyssey is nice, but it can only carry 1,000lbs at a time safely. That means two trips for me, 31 miles each way. Plus, they are only open from 9-12 on Sundays. It takes me four hours in total to drive back and forth and stack the bags in the basement.

I can't complain, it costs me 900 dollars per year to heat my house.

I can tow 1/2 ton w/my car (Altima) and trailer ... fit 15 bags w/o trailer (about 1/3rd of a ton) in my other hatchback car.

be nice to have a truck & trailer to carry 10K lbs ....
