Hello, I live in Las Vegas, NV and I'm looking for 1 ton of Bituminous coal at a reasonable price. I read on one of the threads that I could get 1 ton for around 40 bucks. Can someone please point me into the right direction?

Not sure where to get coal in NV. Your best bet may be look for suppliers in Utah, New Mexico, or Wyoming. At $40 per ton though, I would imagine it's most likely sub-bit or lignite coal.

Since shipping will be expensive anyway, you might be better off to have some good WV bit shipped in, if you're looking to use it in a forge. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

I see, you want black smith coal for forge.

Shipping will be near same cost as for "good" forge coal alone.

The $40/ton you found was probably for Run Of Mine coal that means every size from dust to bolder with rock and dirt in it. You will probably want what is called "stoker" coal its size ranges from about 1/4" to about 1-1/2" with little rock or dirt, its probably going to be upwards of $100/ton.

Given your location I personally would have built a gas forge. Lump charcoal does well in a small forge however it consumes a larger volume of charcoal when compared to coal but, that's a apple to tangerine comparison. Centaur forge has 50lb bags of coal for $46 and also bagged coke http://www.centaurforge.com/Bagged-Smithing-Coal- ... o/COAL1WS/

Go out to reid gardner generating station in north las vegas and ask to buy some coal from them. you'll have to be polite and persistant and talk to the right people, but, powerplants will often sell a pickup truck load or so to an individual for cost; sometimes they'll give it to you, especially if it's a one-off deal. this will give you time to locate a source of stoker coal from a retailer. years ago powerplants esp. small stoker plants would sell to the public regularly or share coal buying with other industries locally; this is getting much less common for administrative and liablilty reasons.
