Agway has since corrected their ad and replied that the $400 was for a pallet of 50 bags. Each bag is 50 pounds making total weight of 2500 lbs.

So that works out to $320 per ton if I did the math right...

They used to have an impressive energy division also. We bought many loads of Agway "Premiun Green" diesel at the farm.

I guess 320 a ton bagged in NH isn't bad.

Here in Mason NH; got a flyer from Townsend Farmers Exchange... $324/ton plus $15/pallet delivery. Bagged Kimmels.... and that's a 2000 lb ton, not a "long ton" or "full pallet".

I'd like to see about building a coal hopper and getting bulk deliveries from bulk companies; however -- I've yet to see the true savings of that yet.

Make sure there ARE some bulk companies before you build the hopper or bin. In my area there is only one bulk company, and their bulk price is higher than bagged, strange as that seems. :!:

Have you tried Riverside coal in Hyde Park. They sell bagged and bulk. When I called in Aug. 285.00/ton plus one time charge of $40.00 delivery. On vacation for two more weeks I'll bring you some coal if you want. Might want to consider taking a ride to NH. Agway in Hampton Falls $360.00/ton bagged Kimmels and no sales tax. Person I go to $360 per 2500# pallet. Dodge Grain in Salem, NH $295 per ton bagged Reading. Matt

At those prices it might make sense to rent a truck and make a breaker run!

I'm having a hell of a time trying to find some coal delivered right now. I only need 1 ton (because I'm new at this & its a secondary source of heat). I called in my order earlier September and was told no problem; "you'll have it the first week in October". Now I'm getting the run around and was told I could buy my coal somewhere else if I wanted. To bad there isn't anywhere else that will deliver or even sell coal near me. I'm not paying $8.49/bag at Aubuchon. WTF!

I have a quarter ton pick up so I'd be making a lot of trips if I had to go pick it up. This sucks.... and the cost is $350/ton

Only 4 trips at 500 pounds each, and your truck will probably handle more than that. Heck, I have had 8 bags (320 pounds) of coal in my 15 year old Honda Civic -- that's the same or less weight as two passengers.
