I live in Rhode Island and am looking for the best prices on coal. The local hardware store sells 50 lb bags of nut for $8.89, or $329 a ton. I'm thinking that's high but I just started with coal and I don't have anything to compare to.

What are you paying and where? Anyone know of coal sources in Rhode Island or south coast MA?

That sounds a bit high...you'd do well to check around at local fuel distributors to see if they also sell coal (a good number of oil/LP companies do so) by the pallet. I paid $300 a ton in N. Vermont for bagged/delivered and I'm further away from coal country than you are.

I am told that Cranston Coal is asking $285.00 ton. That comes from a friend in RI. Hope this helps.
