The only place near me that did bulk was on Dwight Street in New Britain but they closed their doors recently. I don't know of another place in this area that does bulk. Maybe someone else knows of another place in CT that does bulk.

I called there today. Al had a message on the machine saying he is trying to sell the place and that he should have more info after today.

I didn't think he was open at all. Is he still selling coal?

Al is pretty old, I don't think he's physically up to running the business anymore so I believe he is closed up. I just called there again and the message says the same thing but the date for updated info has been changed from the second to the eighth. There must be some issue with the sale.

I'm gonna be out and about today so I may just take a ride by there. I'll be passing near there anyway.
I used to get my coal from there starting about 1975 but in the last seven or eight years I have a place that is much closer to my house and is more convenient for me.

Any updates on Al?

I've always wanted to see the place before it was sold.

Well, I never got a chance to swing by his place today. I ended up having to go in a different direction. Maybe I'll take a ride over there Monday. The German Restaurant East Side is on the same street, so I'll have lunch while i'm over there. :)

Well I took a ride over there today and the place is deserted. :( Its gated and locked and a lot of brush growing around everything. The worst part is the restaurant I was going to on the same street is closed on Mondays.

I haven't been over to see Al yet this year but I'll be trying to get over there before the sale. Here are some pics I took last earlier this year of Al and his place.

The place always had the feeling like it had not changed much since the 1940's. Especially inside the little scale house where Al would conduct business on a classic push key manual cash register. Great guy and I will miss seeing him.

These are the towers where coal would be off loaded by train back in the day. He still used them. I can recall backing up to the rear of the bins, getting close enough to drop a load from the chute in my F-350 and seeing Al manual controlling the the chute openings with a hand held 3lb sledge by banging away on the levers to open and shut the chute!
