the old rail lines were often paved with what ,back then, was waste coal. Before automatic stokers were built, that was rice and buck, and smaller. It would be unusual to find good quality stove coal there. Are you sure it isn't stove sized rock(coal refuse)?

I heard from a reliable source that coal prices should drop this year and have for at least one breaker. Others may follow. Those little birdies let things slip once in a while. :D

Less coal to china, large new mining operation online this last year, people ramped up from tight supplies last year. These are factors I just heard about creating an ample supply of coal this year. I heard one supplier is dropping prices to get orders to make up for less exports.

Way up here in Maine, there's a pretty long shipment route to get it here, so percentage-wise I wouldn't expect to see much reduction. It would be nice if prices just didn't go UP for a year or two.

So, the million dollar question. I was planning to get my coal early for next season. Would I likely get a better price closer to fall? Or should I buy now?

Premium Anthracite from Tamaqua is advertising $145/ton on bulk orders to NY/NJ. With shipping at $2.00/mile. That's a 20 ton truck. $140/ton if you get 40 tons. Not bad, $171/ton to my door. :) Now if I could only come up with the $3420 :?

Got a ton of rice from Gale Mining last week and test burnt it the last few days. Best coal I have had so far of the 6 samples I have burned. I never burned Harmony so I can't compare it to that. Reasonable Red ash content and good heat content.

Rice runs a little large but the Keystoker loved it.

Paid $170/ton bulk for pick up.

Real easy in and out of of I-81. They are not on the coal breaker map listed in this forum.

They will do bagged coal also. I think that was $220 ton but call for price.

They had good stock on most sizes.

As Always, call ahead for current price and availability.

Here in Central VT, 2012-2013 was $369 a ton delivered - got 2 ton. Just got the flyer for the summer special (before July 31st) - $350 a ton. The dealer (Black Rock) says he gets it from Centralia and runs a 10 yard (if I remember right) truck to go get it. Been burinin' coal since my Dad taught me when I was 11 (a bit older now :^) I'll stick with coal 'til I can't shovel, shake, & haul - too great a heat to ignore.

My dealer in WNY said he will be dropping his price in June thanks to a drop in Blakshak's price. I guess he has been pleading with them for some pricing relief for a while now, he is having trouble competing with natural gas prices in the area.

Thanks for the reply. I did end up buying early. I got 6 tons at $235 per ton which included delivery and no tax since it came from PA. Maybe next year it will drop a few bucks 8-)
