If we want to get into a wood vs coal discussion, I suggest starting a new thread before this one gets too far off course.

I picked up a ton last week and paid $95.00 in Pittsburgh area. I could go to the supplier in Washington county and purchase it directly for $70.00, I can only haul a ton at the time so the savings I would get driving there would be wasted on gas getting there. The coal comes directly from the mine and has all different sizes.

Picked up a ton of bulk rice from my local Amish guy for $250/ton Blaschak rice, I don't think that's too bad of a price for the distance from NEPA same state but clear across it would be shorter for many in the New England states.

The coal I purchase has all sizes and is loaded with a bobcat. I get the coal at their location is about 5 miles from my home. They only accept cash for coal purchase.

I'm paying 320.00 a ton and with my old reliable hand fed stove I will use 2 1/2 ton and still save approx. 800 - 1,000 bucks, no NG up here I'll be damned if I will buy propane from the home grown thieves that drool at the thought of holding us hostage with their supply and demand bullshit. No matter what the current state of the economy is they have an excuse and self fulfilling pocket lining crap-o-la. I am either ignorant to the economic equation or just stuborn :?

Stopped for a pick up load of coal today and found the price dropped from $220 to $210 / ton. This is Blaschak rice bulk price at Reeses Coal in Quarryville, Pa.

Hey Samhill, do you buy off of Jr?
We buy our in linesville Pa. 240 bulk, 250 if he bags it, not sure how much the pre-bagged is. Doesn't matter what size you get. Great guy to deal with.

I picked up 1.44 ton with my F350 short bed last week at the Valier Coal Yard near Punxsy. The nut coal was $220/ton, up $10 from the last visit. The guys at the yard said the coal was Lehigh but didn't seem too sure. The coal has been burning slow and clean, with a fine white ash. I'm very satisfied with it.

I'm in federal mine safety but don't get back east to the hard coal often. I made one trip in 2012 to an old underground anthracite mine near Indian Town Gap that was thinking of re-opening.

This week we've been at an underground bituminous fire at the Blacksville No.2 mine on the PA/WV border near Waynesburg. The company is pumping water down boreholes and injecting inert gas to put it out and we are monitoring the mine atmosphere through other boreholes to see what is going on underground. They will definitely get the fire out but it might take a while.

I read in Coal News that bituminous coal exports to China and Europe are up 17% in 2012. Our local coal-fired power plant (Reesedale) closed in 2012 because of the latest EPA rules. I guess if we can't burn our coal the Chinese and Europeans will be happy to.

I got quoted $240/ton for white ash and $230/ton for red ash rice from a yard near me in Mechanicsburg, PA. However I am new to coal and am interested in finding places around Harrisburg, PA if anyone has suggestions.
