I have been using Blaschak coal since Oct. 2011 in my Reading Juniata Stoker Coal Stove. I was charged $330 for the first ton and $345 for the second ton from the same dealer here in Claymont DE. I decided to do some homework and found a different brand of rice for $249 per ton in Lancaster PA. Last week I purchased (4) 50lb bags and started using 2 bags on 1/13/12 and it lasted for about 40hrs + or - 1hr. Then I added 2 bags + 20lbs of blaschak (100lbs) and it only lasted 31hrs + or - 1hr. I keep my thermostat set at 68 and heating a 1500 sq. foot townhouse. You Can Do The Math!! Country Meadows Dist. Inc. 2285 Old Phila. Pike, Lancaster PA.17602 717-397-8337

Yes, different coal will have slightly different burn characteristics, longer burn time, less ash, more ash, susceptible to clinkers, etc.

It could very well be that you are getting a much different a burn time, but since conditions change from day to day affecting the length of time a hopper of coal lasts, I'd be careful about drawing a firm conclusion on such a small sample size.

By the way, you can get Blashack for about $100 less per ton very close to your Country Meadows dealer.

I did this experiment from 1/13/12 to 1/16/12 because I knew the temperature outside would be in the hi 30's and low 20's. I understand that if the temperature was even lower that I would be using more coal. The place you are talking about that sells for $100 less; is it located on Valley Rd in Quarryville, PA? They quoted me $275 per ton for Blaschak. If not could you give me info with their location or phone number?
