First Trip to UAE Harmony

Hi everyone, I braved the snowstorm and made my first trip to UAE Harmony for nut coal on Saturday. I got 3 ton of nut coal at $165.00 a ton. The coal looks very clean and everyone there was very friendly. I got there at 8:15 Saturday morning and after I got my 3 ton loaded there wasn't that much nut coal left? They told me they are having trouble keeping the nut coal on the lot! It is a little too soon to tell but this coal seems to be burning very well in the Harman insert. I have tried Blaschak, Tuscarora, Jeddo-Highland, South Tamaqua, West Penn, American Premium, and LC&N coal. I always come back to South Tamaqua as I have never received bad coal from them, just a little pricey. Does anyone have any info on Harmony mining operations? Not a whole lot to see when I picked my coal up? Where do they mine it at, where is there breaker? Thank you everyone, happy burning!

The Mine is behind the scale trailer /coal bins up on mountain if you would drive pass the first left at end of bin to get on
scale and go to the second left you would go up to top of mountain where the mine entrance is as well as the crusher and sizing screens are there is no breaker only crusher and sizing screens Most of the coal they sell is mine run /raw coal to other companies the process coal is a very small part of their business more of a service then a main business.

The raw coal comes out and they crush and size a small % of it most is trucked out raw to other mining co. /breakers
They also have big contract with Canadian firms that buy large amounts of process coal hence short supply on some sizes.

FYI most of the coal at South Tamaqua, & American Premium comes from LC&N the difference is how it is process Thur each place also Tuscarora coal Co. /breaker is now also owned by the same owner as S.T.

I got surprised also. They have a sign at the scale window that as of 9-24 the price is 165 a ton.

Cost of mining went up they were not making enough at 158 to cover cost so they had to go up another 7 bucks a ton to cover cost and make a profit it is how business is ran if you don't make a profit then your not going to be in business for long.

You don't have to go there for coal you can go else where and pay 175 to 195 per ton at other breakers /mines.

A 15 dollar increase is not that much for any business especially if it was the first increase in over three years.
compare to other breakers /mining companies that put a increase on the coal every year from 10 to 20 per ton.
Like I said you don't have to buy from them there are 33 other companies to buy from.

You know as well as I do that was not an attack on UAE. I have purchased 5 ton load after 5 ton load of coal from them this year and last and wont be going any where unless maybe a certain someone gets there permits. As for the price per ton on coal it was the fact that it went up to $158.00 a ton and then went up again so soon. I don't blame them at all for upping there price as I thought it was low to begin with, just at the two step price increase. Obviously we all know that the other mines are even more as far as price wise. Any idea if the price is expected to go down at all this summer?

Thanks,
Glenn

The other mine your waiting for to open will be Just as much in price if not more and the coal will be not has good higher
ash content lower BTU per lb different vein of coal the UAE price might come down and might not has to do with cost of running operating the mine and all other cost that goes into mining is not cheap by any means I really don't see any prices coming down only going up like everything else BTY never said you where attacking anything or anyone Just explaining why
the price went up.

August 1st 2011it went up 8 dollars 150 to 158 per ton first time in three years the price increased well that could not pay for there costs to mine so they had to increase the price by another 7 bucks might have to put it up again if it does not cover increase in cost of operating.

Fair enough and of course it makes sense. Except for one special lady up there everyone else seems super nice and like any other hard working American deserves a good wage. I do wish I was not 102.3 miles away from the mine as fuel killed me this year.

Thanks again,
Glenn

I bet it is less then we do here at the plant. We go through 14K gallons a day in the winter. :) Yep... Ridiculous! Still I am sure there consumption is great. Heck most of there fuel probably goes to making sure Wendy is nice and warm in the office. hehe

:)

Thanks,
Glenn

trailer office and scale is heated with coal efm 520 in the tool room first door on left in front next to office door.
about the same for them two tanker trucks a day not counting all the electricity for the two continuous miners and thousands gallons of water

Whatever the cost is now, it burns great! I was getting from Lenig & Sons last 2-3 years until the middle of last winter. It wasn't throwing much heat and the stove kept dying. my father-in-law has the same stove and he had the same problems. I went to UAE Harmony after reading all of the positive conversations here. Sure, I paid a couple bucks more and a bit more fuel for the truck, but if the coal doesn't burn, are you really saving anything?
