2011-2012 Anthracite Prices

Does anybody in PA coal country have any idea how much coal prices are going up for the upcoming winter? I heat my home in the upper peninsula of Michigan with wood and coal, and last season my supplier was able to provide me Blashak nut coal for $375 per 60 bag skid. May seem pricey to you in coal country, but factoring in transportation costs it's still 40 percent cheaper than propane where I live. Just trying to get a feel what the increases might be.

My supplier here in W.Pa told me yesterday his was going up $10 to $15 per ton on Aug 1.

The folks at Harmony told me they were going up $8.00 on August 1. Mike

Unfortunatly I only have a small materials yard in Dushore that supplies area with coal. They have Blaschak now for about 230 a ton delivered. Guess its time to put the plywood on the utility cart.

My delivery guy told me $10-15 increase this week. I am trying to pack in a double load.

He heard that the Chinese are buying up everything they can and have built a railroad in PA to transport to a cross country connection to ship it to China. Anyone else hear about this?

If it's true, the Chinese are getting nervous about the dollar. Anthracite shipped half way around the globe isn't cheaper than oil or Australian coal.

Railroad already exists. China is buying coal for metalurgical purposes. Demand is currently high. More to do about supply and demand, not dollar. Only positive note, it will help balance the trade deficit. Anthracite burners will pay more. Stock up now. Note that the article is a year old.

China is buying mineral resources all over the world, coal, iron ore, crude oil, etc. It's to meet domestic demand. They are no longer self sufficient in coal. They must buy. One of the countries they would like to buy from is Mongolia which is rich with coal and it's close by. But there is a problem, no railway to China and poor roads. But the Mongolian's are leery of China. So the railroad they are building to export their coal is going to Russia not China.

Thanks for the good links. It is what I expected. One article characterized anthracite going through the roof. I didn't experience that myself. It is up for me from $210 to 238 per ton delivered. Just put it in two days ago. The price always includes the use of an elevator (conveyor) to put it up. Considering my mother contracted for oil at $3200 (heat loss 78kbtu/h) and I will use about $1300 (heat loss 56KBTU/H) in coal, I am happy so far with the price increase. Only time will tell what happens to it.

Lots of natural gas drilling in our area but no pipelines to the villages and hamlets yet. If the chinese get too porky, that may be the cheapest way to heat (excluding bit - yuck!)

Same here, my suppliers went up about $5-10/ton. I think around $230-240/ton (Bulk).

$404 a pallet included .06 sales tax for 67 40lbs bags of Blashak nut coal from my supplier, in Jackson mi.

Bought my coal today from a different supplier.....5 pallets (6.25 ton) of Blaschak rice. $287.50 per ton was the quoted price. That's one hell of a price for these parts! This will be the first winter I burn strictly Blaschak. We'll have to see if I burn less than before. Friends of mine swear by it......claim they burn less than with Kimmels or Reading. Time will tell!

Calvin Lenigs is still at $140 a ton picked so far

In MA I paid $30 a ton more than last year.

I think they are one of the few that is still priced at $140/ton. Does that include rice?

Poso coal ( Blaschak) in Dryden is at $235.00 plus delivery at the moment--607-753-8603--price will go up as we get closer to snow flying
