Anthricite Coal in Alaska

I live near Broad pass and while out with the four-weeler I came across some coal yesterday, so I do an internet search and find a documant titled "Alaska Coal Geology, Resources, and Coalbed Methane Potential" anyway the Broad Pass coal is 5500-7100 BTU/lb 20-35% moisture, basically combustable dirt, slightly lower grade than the stuff we get from Healy.
But the big news is the Matanuska Valley, in locations like Wishbone Hill, Chickaloon, and Anthricite Ridge, 10,400-14,400 BTU/lb and 1-9% moisture, Real Coal

.
They do a "reality show" about gold mining in Alaska and the fact is they should be mining Anthricite Coal. The tag line could be Arctic Hillbillys trying to stay warm.

There are potentially massive deposits of anthracite near Alaska that have never been mined. The Mount Klappan and Groundhog regions of British Columbia, Canada have anthracite reserves that may be greater than the sum total of all of the anthracite ever mined (or that ever will be mined) in Eastern PA.

its my understanding that Usibelli is conducting a feasibility study on the wishbone hill deposit...

Yes the wishbone hill area has good coal. As well does sutton. I have driven out there and filled a 55g drum several times from (ground) coal. that was bit and anth, with some mixed in sub bit.

On Usibelli's website they say that the Wishbone Hill deposit is bituminous...are they not letting on, just a very high grade bituminous that is close to anthracite, or...

just hope they don't sell it all to china like they are doing in pa. the price will skyroket

I think it is safe to say that most of the coal mined in Alaska is exported to South America and Asia.

I have seen some coal come from Healy that looks like Anthricite. Very hard, shiny, almost has a glassy look to it. We get some every now and then, usually just find pieces here and there in a dump truck load. But, I have heard that the wishbone hill deposit has some very good qualities. I'm going to assume that they are saying it is bituminous coal because that is what the majority will be. But, I do believe that there is anthricite deposits up there.
