Hello everyone..
I burn rice coal in my Alaska Channing III, equipped with a Coaltrol...as I take out the ash pan, the ashes all look gray/white, and there is no evidence of unburned coal. Lately, I have been spreading out the ashes outdoors, as opposed to dumping them in a pile...well, I have noticed that after the ashes have been sitting there outdoors, and thru rain storms, what was previously uniformly gray is now dispersed with what looks like black rice coal! I'm wondering if my coal is not burning right...could it be that unburned coal is just getting covered with fly ash, and that the rain is 'washing' it clean to espose the real situation?

What do you think?

Thanks

I think your getting wound up for nothing. The small bit of coal you see isn't enough to really make a difference, If it looked like it was more black than anything , I would be concerned. Think of it this way, if you spread all the coal out that made that small pile of ash, how big would it be. Ten or fifteen times
by volumn after the ash is washed away. Makes that little bit just that. :)
I think a man does what he can, untill his destiny is revealed. Right now that is trying to sell my EFM plate boilers in 520 and 700 sizes.

You will always have some unburnt coal, sometimes depends on how it feeds, I always get a bit in the ash in both my stoves.

Sorry,,,,, didn't mean any offence. You should see my drive way. Looks like a checker board. Some black here, red ash here, white ash here. Harmony burns the cleanest. Not any black to speak of. Jeddo burns almost as well. All other have quite a bit of black/shale. :)
