I'm burning Superior rice in two stokers and the ash is a bit excessive.
The heat production seems about normal or a little above average.

Yes it has a high ash content. The heat is good out of it, and it is pretty well processed. There are better brands/companies, but I consider it a better than average coal. To me it comes down to what is available and price.

meatball.... blaschak has stove coal in a bag.

Remember it is not the same Raw coal going there like in the past . The underground mines that supplied the breaker in the past are all closed . It is all surface mined coal Plus One of the best guys that ran and controlled the breaker died two years ago. So the product is not has good as it once was . Higher in ash content lower BTU value and a dirty product.

JC,

How did the issue over threatening a mine inspector turn out? Did it go to court?

I'd agree that I am seeing more ash as well this year. Still seems to burn well just more ash. I can deal with that.

Done and over with Paid a fine . That is not what closed down the mines It is the underground tracking system that
The Gov. are making the owners install if they want to continue to mine coal underground .
Most of the Mine operators can not afford the system which is still not proven to work in anthracite mines as well as being safe to use around the Detonator's that the miners use to fire the shots . The Federal Gov. nor will the manufacturer will put it on paper saying it is a safe system . So the owners will not buy a system that is not proven to be safe also the manufacturers will not install them in the mines its up to the owners of the mines to install them . The way it is now is if you more then 200ft deep then you must have the system installed . Under 200 ft you do not need it But most coal is not that good in Quality under 200 ft like I said most coal there is always exception to every rule .

That is why I stopped using it a 1-1/2 years ago to much ash and much dirtier no underground coal going there all surface mined coal and for the price per ton it is not worth it UAE Harmony mine coal is a much more better product 1/2 to 3/4 less ash content and the BTU value is higher 13.500 per lb ash content 6.5% Plus 10 bucks cheaper a ton.

I thought something seemed wrong with superiors product. I've had the air inlet cranked nearly a full turn more open than last year to get the same level of heat. I realize it colder but something seemed wrong, now I know. Hope I can find someone to deliver Harmony for next year.

That's the thing is finding it local. I don't have the option of going and getting it myself (no truck or trailer). So I just have to take a pick of who delivers what brands.
