While I was out on the road yesterday, I passed a sign for #2 home heating oil.It was $3.29/gallon.I rolled that into the energy calculator and found that I would pay $578.00/ton of coal for the equivalent BTU's. My recent trailer load of coal was 1.8 tons.[3600 #] That cost $270.00. Further calculation revealed that when this present batch of 1.8 tons is used up I will have saved $795.00 over the equivalent price for oil at this present rate. That is better than any local bank will pay as interest on a $4000.00 investment.[KAA2 and fittings]. That is money that will stay right here in America, where it is sorely needed right now. It looks especially good because the payback period on the Keystoker was over last winter.I like to think of it as black gravy. It could not come at a better time. How does it look for your situation? Mike

2 years ago, my electric was as high as $550/month for Dec. to Feb. My last bill was $105. I'm saving $50/month for my domestic hot water and $400 month on the heat in the worst months. What I save in 2 months pays for the year with coal. Now with the cost of electric going up, I must be doing better :D

My neighbor lives in a 5 year old McMansion that he built. It's well constructed and insulated because he was a construction supervisor for a large local builder. It's heated with a propane furnace, fuel from two underground tanks. He lost his job when the builder went bankrupt. In comparing heating expenses his propane heating cost for one cold winter month is about the same as my entire season cost using coal.

Right now, Natural gas is the only thing that comes close
to competing with coal. If it's not available though, it's
not competitive.

Slatfin?
When you turn your boiler on -Does it return the favor?
I have finally lost my mind. Don't bother to return it. It wasn't working properly anyway!

My house is all electric and we must call in our meter readings due to the fact that after an addition our meter ended up in our basement. I mention to my wife that when she calls in the next reading to remind them that we switched to coal. Well today when she called in the reading the lady said she could see the drop in usage and the stove was only in use for two weeks. I can't wait to see the savings for the next month.
