After a real bad experience with bagged nut I will only buy coal can see. My last bagged load had TONS of fines and burns like c rap. I won't name names. 1.5 tons in the back of my dually and watch it go in and know the mine and shovel it out as I don't use much nut/stove (2-3tons). I am not a happy camper. You NEPA guys don't know how lucky you are. The bulk of my serious heating though is with rice (17 tons this horrible winter) and I can't take a chance as I just about scrapped my oil CH - psst anyone want a cheap oil furnace, only thirty years young and only driven to church on Sundays by a little old lady. The rust and leaks are thrown in for free - no more HO read my lips so there is no backup. Of course, I also said that about no more stoves and Poconoeagle (God bless him) is helping me get a baseburner going. No William, this time I'm serious, no more stoves..... nine is definitely enough ..... but stay tuned.

Jobe Sender at Gale Mining is my new hope (thx Rob R). 22 tons of black diamonds is coming at a price I could not refuse. I'm too old to freeze to death. Pacowy is helping me get a gravity wagon (thx a lot Mike) and I am playing around with storage options. When I get a new load of black diamonds I just gaze at it and run it through my fingers lovingly. My wife and her buddies think I may be unbalanced. I think they are crazy. It's tough being the only normal person in the world.

I have been buying for the last couple of years from Neumann Trucking in Coventry, NY. Blaschak bagged all stored inside and picked up during the summer, bags are nice and dry. He also has a place in North Norwich (in the old saurkraut factory building) that his son runs where they sell bulk. Summer price is 255/ton bags no limit. 220/ton bulk, not sure how long this price will hold. Hopefully 'till Saturday then I will be fully stocked.
Was buying "bag my own" from Dennis Coal in Fabious, NY. Great people but with the price of gas I can't beat a 10 minute drive to Coventry.

Paddle,

Thanks. I think I drove past there today, just north of Norwich Pharmaceuticals, right? Ill have to try giving them a call. Definitely getting time to really think about heat, I was up near Saratoga this weekend and the maples are beginning to change.

Woodford Bros., Inc http://coal.woodfordbros.com/ has a friendly, helping staff and competitive pricing. I bought 3 tons of coal this year at the beginning of Sept '13 at a pre-heating season rate of 213.00/ton. After Oct 1st, their rate went up to 233.00/ton. Still a great buy, as their pricing is down from 240.00/ton at the tail-end of the 2012-2013 heating season. They've added weigh in/out truck scales this year. I pull a 100 bushel Little Giant gravity wagon down there and they have me loaded and headed back home in no more than 10 minutes. I used to spread my purchases between Dennis Coal in Fabius and Woodford Bros in Apulia, however the past 2 years I've not favored Dennis Coal as a result of their rising prices and sometimes not-so-friendly customer service.

I ordered from Neumann for the first time this year...They were great to deal with. I also got bagged rice for 255/ton. The bags DO NOT have excess moisture, just enough to keep the dust down. They also only charged me 40 dollars for delivery of 5 tons!

Yes, John Staelen (Staelan's Coal Sales, Madison NY 315-893-7531), brings it in by tractor trailer and bags it at his yard. Rice, or nut, but no stove size last I checked. Or, he'll deliver up to 7 ton from his high lift coal truck. Charged me $260.00 a ton for 4 tons of nut delivered last week. Comes washed, and no extra delivery fees. I've been dealing with John for 8 years now. He's a good guy to deal with.

Townley Coal, on 14A south of Geneva, bulk $230/ton, bagged Blaschak more (don't know skid price, but $6.50 a 40# bag.) Been quite satisfied with bulk from Spike, they are good folks there and keep a lot of parts in stock too. Not getting bulk from them right now, apparently stokers don't appreciate snow and ice in their coal  but the Hitzer didn't mind too much if a little came along. (Last year I'd just leave coal in stakebed of truck with a tarp, bring downstairs in buckets...) Townley have nut, rice, and I think also stove and pea.

Rushco, in Rushville, bagged unbranded coal, in white woven 'feed bag' type bags, white ash, real nice coal, $6.75 50# or $265/ton. I can find out where it comes from if you guys are curious. Will be buying this until I get a proper bin set up. They have rice and nut.

Also, the HEP stores and Byrne Dairy convienence stores around here also sell bagged Blaschak. HEP sells nut and rice, $6.19 a 40# bag, also sell by pallet. I don't know price at Byrne and they only have rice. But they are open at all hours--handy if you get caught short.

I get mine (Blaschak Nut & Stove, bagged) from Valley View Farms in Berne, actually I have John deliver it. In regards to it being wet, I store it outside covered with tarps myself, don't have a problem with it. (Hand fed, not hopper) I Have used other places such as Agway in Cobleskill but Valley View Farms is my primary supplier.
