I'm burning Kimmel's from American Coal in the stoker right now (ran out of Harmony). It is very uniform, clean, white ash, burns well. Yes, the Harmony coal does burn hotter and with less ash, but I have no complaints about this coal.

First kimmel does not break and size coal they only bag it Meadowbrook coal breaker breaks and sizes the coal then it is bulk loaded and trucked over to kimmel bagging plant were it is bagged
The different sizes are either by the screens being worn out at the breaker or they are delivering the different sizes of coal in the same truck and not all of the coal is being dump out so on the next load you will have two different sizes
mixing in Or the bagging hopper is not being cleaned out all the way when they go from one size to the next

2001Sierra wrote:Myself and 2 friends purchased a trailer load of Kimmel rice, and nut. We took delivery in August. Size and quality has been consistent. Red ash, and yes some bags are wetter than others. No complaints, burning in a Keystoker 90, and a Harman Boiler. Third friend has a Harman hand fed, and is doing well with the nut that was supplied as well. I hear Kimmel has a new mine, do not know if this will help.
No new Underground mines they are Surface mining

Fluffy white ash from this load, and lots of it too.
