Whoever said its just enuf coal to heat the rock was right
This last 1/2 ton has more wood in it and has to be burned fast with a lot of draft to stay lit and put out heat.

Should have some Superior by end of Jan. Can't wait to compare them.

I've had good results with Reading Nut also. I do find the occasional piece of wood or other debris in it but as a hand fed stpve burner for the most part I just look at it as fuel. I can see where it could mess up a stoker though. Lisa

Another vote for "Reading coal is hit & miss.....try Superior or Blaskchak".

I can buy Reading locally and save lots of time and wear and tear on my truck, instead I choose to take the road trip out for the "good stuff". 'Nuff said.

Wood'nCoal, I checked your link.I don't live near coal country, and have no idea what that means. "refuse" could be a noun or verb. If it is a noun, does that mean they are processing garbage?

I'd like to get the consistency you get with the coal from the mines. It's just that Ritter's is so close - and expensive - and I don't have much free time to make the run west. Did I tell you the Reading nut I have this year is decent stuff. The first 1.5 ton of nut I got in December had 5 or 6 handfuls of wood chunks in it. This stuff burns as hot as the Superior nut - this is a first in 8 years of burning mostly Reading pea. I'm getting a little less ash volume too, 10 -20% less. It's not as nice to use as Superior's because it shakes down harder. Superior's sandy red ash fell easily but the Reading has that beige granola thing going on that makes it harder to shake. I don't have a clinkering problem with either brand and I run the Vigilant nearly full-out most of the time. I think Reading is such a big corporation that there's a lot of variability laying around in those old refuse piles.
