It's not stainless. It's just cheap angle iron I bought at Home Depot. (probably around 3/4"X3/4" but any size will work)
I did have to cut it to fit (Hacksaw) & I had to cut a few bricks to fit the sides. (masonry blade in my chop saw)
The angle iron is above the burning coal bed so it should be fine.
Makes life alott easier with them!

To those burning anthracite in western pennsylvania, where are you purchasing from? I am about 30 minutes east of Pittsburgh (North Huntingdon area). The closest places are in Latrobe (Kingston Supply). I have quotes there for $195/ton. I've called a few other places and have been quoted prices in excess of $300/ton.

I'm looking to join up with someone to pick up about 2-3 tons of nut coal from Superior or UAE. I don't have a trailer and my little truck would be laughed out of the breakers.. I live in Hunterdon County NJ. If someone is interested in splitting the trip I'd pay the lion's share of the gas/diesel expense. Or if anyone knows of a co-op near me please let me know. PM me if interested - thanks!

Rent A u haul trailer 5x9 or the 6x12 open trailer you will fit 2.5 tons in the 5x9 and 4 tons in the 6x12 you will need to put a back front and sides on it use Plywood The 5x9 you will need a piece for the back where the ramp gate is It will keep the coal from falling out A 4x 5 Piece will do or a 3x5 piece The 6x12 you will need a 2 to 3 ft high piece two 3x6 will do for the front & back Two 3x12 pieces for the sides will do Also don't forget Tarps and tie downs you need them for interstates and Highways to cover the load These trailer are very under rated as far as weight load They are very heavy
& well made Just don't tell them how much you are going to put on it  There are two members on here that use them all the time for coal both have used the 6x12 and one has used the 5x9 several times with No problems I have seen the 6x12 with 3.5 tons on it and it had room for 1 to 1.5 more tons The springs had alot more room to go before they would be flate same goes for the tires the 5x9 trailer I seen had 2 tons on it With enough room left for 1/2 to 1 more ton the springs & tires had alot more room to go before you would have any problems :)

Thanks coalberner; I was surprised how cheap it is to rent one of thos trailers - less than $30/day.. Would still prefer to find someone with real equipment near me who would benefit from me paying the gas, but if summer gets too far along I will hook up a uhual and cross my fingers that my wimpy truck will handle it! Or keep picking up 20 bags of Blaschak every time I pass the store! Just sounds like there is much better coal for half the price out where y'all live. Thanks again for the tip.

Yeah, the only coal I can find in the Albany, NY area is either in bags or you have to come and pick up bulk coal (and we don't have the set up for that). Actually, from reading these posts, it seems that we may be able to hire a trucker to haul the stuff to our area, especially if we ordred twenty tons or more (which we are willing to do). Does anyone know how we go about doing this? We have a friend about 20 miles from our home who would be willing to split the load. Are the trucker's willing to dump half at our place and the other half at his? If not, we may still be able to take the full 20 tons. Any info is greatly appreiciated! We're new at heating with coal and the bagged prices are pretty high.
