My Ford dually 7.3 diesel was filled up at a cost of over $150. Drive it? no way ... I will use it as a fuel reserve for ag stuff. this is stupid

Sheetz just had a promo for 88 blend which has a bit more ethanol at 15% I believe. 1.99 a gal. I tossed 8 gallons in the Tahoe on the way home yesterday from stroudsburg. It’s corn gas so it’s useless in small engines. My guess it’s a drive to reduce gasoline draw and push the government subsidized fuel. Was nice over the holiday tho

My son put that stuff in his 2014 f-150 3.7 v6 and it went from 19 mpg to 14 mpg.

I've heard that mpg drop, didn't notice any significant change. That flex fuel crap I know destroys mileage.

Basically, all internal combustion engines are "heat pumps". It's the heat expansion of burning gasses that pushes the pistons and does the work of making milage.
Alcohol burns much cooler than gasoline. Using it mixed in makes a fuel with less heat per gallon, and that equals less energy per gallon, and that equals proportionately less miles per gallon.

Not really heat pumps as they burn fuel very inefficiently...
A true heat pump only moves heat ... At high efficiencies...
Fuel burning engines are ~25% efficient whereas heat pumps
are ~200 to 500+ % efficient. Not really a competitive choice...
Over 8x to infinity more efficient...
Too much energy is lost as heat and noise...

ICE engines are a pump, just like many other types of pumps. And it is heat that makes them work.
Efficiency has nothing to do with what they are.

Listen lol 8 Gallons didn't hurt squat. It was 16 bucks of thankfulness of not being 30 plus. Absolutely no mileage change occurred, not a regular fuel used.

Any time I can find ethanol free fuel out of state at the pump, I fill the Silverado with it. I have to run premium anyway, or when I tow, this thing will knock itself to pieces. I always gain at least 2 MPG. If I fuel up the city, where they must be using more ethanol, it drops 2 MPG. I couldn't imagine what it would do on E15. All set with that! Truck is a Flex, and I have to constantly get into it with the scan tool and reset my fuel composition - after a fill-up, it'll think I've got a tank full of 30% ethanol, and the injectors start dumping fuel in.

I'm lucky to have ethanol free at wawa 4 miles away. i run all the old vehicles and the small engines on it. I keep 15 gallons of it because they run out often.

Most of the gas stations here in CNY have e-free high test - typically 91 octane. In a modern car, the higher cost for a bit more milage is not a plus, but it has made a huge difference here in small engines. Mine and all the neighbor's lawn mowers and weedwhackers once again start easily and run like they are supposed to.
And much fewer requests for help with fuel system problems from my antique car customers that have access to e-free gas.

I’m usually on par with requests but politics is exactly what this topic is about. Brace yourself for the prices we are seeing about nonsense policies. Venezuela is a better option than American oil and gas ! Sorry I’ll stop , but I just setup a flow meter on a well pad near me so we can start trucking compressed natural gas instead of using pipelines. Think about that driving down the highway with your family. Just nonsense b.s…. Sorry rob.
